Advanced statistical methods: discrete variables, lecture
Lecture, 30h, 4 ECTS
The main goal of this course is to broaden students
knowledge and practical skills in using multivariate statistical
methods for discrete data.
Course will provide students with theoretical knowledge and skills
(including results interpretation and evaluation of published
research), as well as some practical experience in using multivariate
methods for discrete variables.
This course will be focused on following statistical methods:
Clustering / classification methods
Survival Analysis
Basics of the machine learning
Course is designed for students who have broad background
in quantitative statistical methods. Students should be familiar
with ANOVA and Multiple Regression methods.
After completing the course students will be familiar with a range of
advanced statistical methods and their applications. Students are
also expected to know how to interpret output, and present results
produced by statistical programs.
Class participation and short in-class quizzes based on
readings (15%)
Two home Assignments (10% each) will require performing
and/or presenting the results of an analysis
Written final examination (65%) at the very end of the
course will cover both readings and the lecture content. The
exam will verify theoretical knowledge as well as practical
skills of interpreting the results
Course will be held in a computer lab. Every meeting will start
with a lecture part followed by some practical exercises.
