Arab Spring
The Arab Spring is a series of revolutions and protests by civilians of around 20 countries
in the Arab world. There are several contributing factors to why this Arab Spring is occurring,
the main one being people in these countries are displeased with their government. An unusual
aspect of these revolutions is the role that social media is playing within them.
Of the countries involved in the Arab Spring, the most important are Libya, Egypt, and
Syria. The first major government to be overthrown was Egypts. Egypts former president of
30 years, Hosni Mubarak was sentenced to life in prison for ordering the killing of civilians that
were protesting the actions of the government.
