    The AVERAGE function adds up the values in a range of cells and divides by the number of cells. It can average a single range of cells specified by the cell references, like =AVERAGE(B2:B5) which averages cells B2 through B5. Multiple ranges can also be averaged by separating them with commas, like =AVERAGE(B2:B5,C2:C5) which averages the values in ranges B2:B5 and C2:C5. Named ranges can also be used in the AVERAGE function instead of cell references.

    AVERAGE Function

    This function will add up whatever cells you tell it to.

    Number1 This is the range of cells you want averaged.


    If you had another range of cells, you would put it in
    Number2.
    In cell B6 we have the formula =AVERAGE(B2:B5). Excel will average all the cells from B2 to
    B5. The result is 83. Instead of a range, you can put a Named Range in there, if you have one
    named. You also can have multiple ranges. For example, you could have
    =AVERAGE(B2:B5,C2:C5)
