INEL5309 DIGITAL SIGNAL PROCESSING

SECOND EXAM NOVEMBER 24, 2013

DUE: NOVEMBER 27, 2013, BEFORE 11:00 PM
Prof. Domingo Rodrguez

Name:________________________ID. No._________

Problem One(50 Points): Aliasing Effect

Use two continuous-time complex exponential signals to demonstrate

the aliasing effect by passing the sum of these two signals through a
low-pass filter which filters (eliminates) one of the signals and allows
the second complex exponential to pass through the filter. Relate the
continuous-time Fourier transform (CTFT) with the discrete-time
Fourier transform (DTFT) and the discrete Fourier transform (DFT).
Write a small MATLAB program which demonstrate the aliasing effect
by changing the value of the sampling frequency and plotting the
magnitude of the spectra of the input and output signals. Please, show
all works and derivations to demonstrate how you arrived at your
particular and individual results.

Problem Two (50 Points): Windowing Method

Describe the process of linear phase low-pass FIR filter design using
the windowing method. Demonstrate how the order of the filter is
related to its phase delay. Assume that the impulse response of the
filter is always of odd length and symmetric. Write a small MATLAB
program to demonstrate the effect of the windows on the design of the
filter.
