reorder text
produce a coherent
sequence of events

Show a sequence of historical events that are in random order,

eg facts about Drakes voyage. Explain to the class that
information is not always presented in the most useful way.

screen.
Divide the class into pairs and ask the children to think about the
order of the paragraphs displayed on screen so that they
produce a clearer sequence of events.

school, put what you
eat into healthy order
etc

RESOURCES NEEDED: Laptops, MS Word, How Muscles Work.doc

Objective

rather than a
substitute for being
able to spell

Extend: Give clues about

sequence of events. Chn can
then decide on the order of
events.

Show an extract from an information book, eg How Muscles

Work, but include a number of spelling mistakes. Discuss why
correct spelling is important and explain that before a book is
printed editors and proof-readers correct spelling mistakes.
Show the class how to use spellcheck and explain that it
sometimes makes a number of suggestions for one word,
eg wat, on the first line could be lots of things. Explain that the
first suggestion is not always the right one and that spellcheck
does not recognise mistakes where a real word is used, eg it
will not recognise word at the end of the sentence where it
should be work.
In pairs or individually, get the chn to use spellcheck to correct
the extract of text.

Have you found all the

errors? Which
mistakes were less
obvious eg typing
then instead of the
or there when it should
be their.
