ANALYSIS
PERSONAL RESPONSE
FOR EXAMPLE
In his poem, The Lake Isle of Innisfree, William
Butler Yeats uses imagery to communicate the
importance of peace and quiet for a balanced
life. By using words like glimmer and glow (910), the reader sees that this lake isle is visually
appealing to the speaker. He contrasts that with
the grey pavement (13) of the city to show why
he might want to escape to a lake. For when he
writes that he shall have some peace there (5)
Yeats clearly expresses the desire for peace and
balance in his life full of city streets.
