The medieval Childrens' Crusade was the vilest exploitation of children in the name of all that was
holy.
Annually, the Mayors from New York to Peking haul out the Scouts, Pioneers, Red Guards -- the
children -- and march them around to enhance the local image of loyalty.
And today, the Gramercy-Stuyvesant Committee to Bring the Troops Home calls children into the
streets in the name of "peace," trying to persuade everyone (with the cruelest, crudest leaflet in recent
memory) that these children demand the release of Dr. Spock.
QUOTATION TO NOTE
"Please be advised that we and children will break from these men who have forgotten their
childhood, who remember of it only the images that broke it, dominated it -- who remember only the
history of their adjustment to the enveloping and sterilized adult world."
Dr. Spock's books have given parents around the world new justifications for dismembering the play,
love and creativity in children. Send children to free him?! the great advocate of "peace," one of the
fathers of the most advanced warfare: the colonization of childhood?!
And the sponsors of this parade, little people that they are, stand equally accused of manipulating
children to serve their ends of "peace in Vietnam" -- the character of this manipulation is an accurate
portrait of the "peace" they would bring us. They bring children to the streets and reward them with
suckers. Those who consciously oppose all domination share precious secrets with children.
THE QUALITY OF CHILDHOOD WILL BE THE QUALITY OF LIFE
