ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
It is my great pleasure to have an opportunity to discuss
some ideas and put this report before you. I am thankful to
numerous people who game me their valuable time and
suggestions in writing this report.
Through this acknowledgement, I express my sincere
Gratitude towards our college staff, Director Shri R. H. Vyas
Professor Mr. Jayraj Pandya and also my helping friends who
helped me in the preparation of this report, which has been a
bearing experience. I am heartily thankful to my parents and
friends with whose igneous presence and valuable suggestions
so that I am capable in submitting my report on the Navjeevan
Printing Press.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Navjeevan press was started in Bombay. They have
started small press with second hand machinery purchased Rs.
7,000. Finally Navjeevan Printing Press was started on 7th
September 1919 Sunday in Bombay.
The Navjeevan Presss main mission is that they want to
change the way of thinking and the new generation. They have
choose that location because Gandhiji came at Ahmedabad and
settled in Gujarat.

Production Process is in three parts.

1.2 FORM OF THE ORGANISATION


The form of the organization is Public Charitable Trust.

1.3 MISSION OF THE ORGANISATION

(A) To propagate Gandhijis thoughts to the Literature.


(B) They wanted people read the book of Gandhiji and
Adopt their thoughts in their life.

1.4 HISTORY OF THE ORGANISATION


In 1917, after returning from South Africa, Gandhiji
wanted to have two things.
(A) Community Life.
(B) Publish English and Gujarati weekly magazines.
Shankarlal Banker and Soheb Qureshi were started weekly
magazines by Gandhiji from Mumbai namely Navjeevan and
Satya. The word Satya was removed by Gandhiji and he said
that Navjeevan itself called a Satya.
Gandhiji thought that we should have our own press and
then Gandhiji purchase Manhar Printing Press at Manekchowk
for Rs.10000. Bapu started printing himself on one printing
machine given by Indulal Yagnik. They started two weekly
magazines Navjeevan and Young India.
In the 10 years of time savings of press was Rs. 1,00,000/Bapu converted 1,00,000/- into a trust and Navjeevan came into
existence.
From 1930 onward along with Journal books publishing
were also started. During freedom movement British
Government 3 confiscated this place to 4 times. Navjeevan and
Young India were wound up and restarted as Harijan in 4
languages namely,

(1) Harijan Sevak in Urdu


(2) Harijan Bandhu in English
(3) Harijan Bandhu in Gujarati
(4) Harijan Bandhu in Hindi
In 1950 these premises were out side of Ahmedabad.
Selling rights are given to foreign publisher. Gandhiji said that
not except any donation and grants from Governments.

1.5 ACHIEVEMENT OF THE


ORGANISATION
The achievements of the organization are as below.
(1) Gandhijis Autobiography has been released in 13
languages and now printed in 14 languages.
(2) Letters are received from students, especially from
Young Readers.

This organization was established at 1919 in Mumbai
and at 1950 in Ahmedabad.

CHAPTER 2
PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT:

2.1 PRODUCTION CLASSIFICATION


This trust was producing newspaper named Navjeevan but
now it is not producing newspaper. It has stopped producing
newspapers since long time.
Now days it is printing different books related to the whole
life of Gandhiji and articles novels and journals etc.
Navjeevan trust publish works of other authors who write
on subjects related to the Gandhiji thought and other on subjects
like health, which are useful for society.

2.3 PRODUCTION PROCESS


These steps are in production process at Navjeevan
Printing Press.
(1) Computer Department
(2) Pasting
(3) Plate Making
(4) Printing
(5) Folding

(1) Computer Department

This computer department is called as Desktop Publishing


(DTP) Department and also called a Type Setting Department.
In this department, there are some Programme like oral
draw, Photoshop and Page Maker 5.0. The instruments like
Lesser Printer, Scanner and DOT MATRIX printer are in it.
The softer that is run in it is called as SHREE LIPI.

First for rough page connection, Print is done then it is


taken on for lesser print and then there is a Print on butter paper.
After that Mirror Print is done on Butter paper.
Scanner Machine

Photo scanners

Document scanner

Scanner Machine is used for taking photos of print for this


photoshop 5.0 programme is used in computer HP SCANJET 5P
is used in this system. Then scanners have many sizes but A4 is
use more. With the help of this we can do colour collection,
change a size of photos and also done photograph touching.
Master paper print is made in Computer Department.

Vertical Camera

When computer was not there the machine which is called


Kaam Vertical Camera was used. Vertical Camera was used
for taking out negative and positive of photographs. With the
help of this machine 5 time enlargement and 5 times deduction
can be done. This process is known ASTROLESSY
PROCESS.

(2) Pasting:After making butter copy pasting is done 8 page are pasted
on 1 sheet. The sheet, which is used, is known as the
ASTROLEN SHEET.

(3) Plate Making Department: Whirler Machine

In this department redial page is making on Aluminum


plate. Plate making is done where pasting is done. Aluminum
coating is done through light sensitive coating. This plate is
exposed to plate exposing machine. After that chemical process
on plate is done two chemical which names were Prit encil and
Stencil are used. Prit encil chemical is used for plate wash. Red
Dai is applied to on this plate.
After Appling it image is seen on the Aluminum plate
and then readable page is ready.

(4) Printing: HMT Offset Machine:


The plate which has been made ready is put on this
machine. The image is ready and seen reverse on blanket
cylinder. Ink comes from upper side. Image was first comes on
the plate then on the sheet. In this one sheet 16 pages are
included. The capacity of this machine is 5,000 sheets per hour.
In this speed is maintained through regulator. Navjeevan Press
has 4 offset machines.

Baby Offset Machine:

In this machine master copy is used some times instead of


butter copies. When there is less no. of copies to be printed in it
is used special liquid (GP) is used to clean the machine. In
cleaning master copy soap is used.
Capacity of this machine is 3,000 papers per hour.
Navjeevan Press has only one baby-offset machine.

(5) Folding:-

In this folding machine four times folding facility is


available size of the papers can be adjusted through this folding
machine at a one time 16 pages can be folded.
Measurement of the page can be done in this capacity of
the folding machine is 5,000 pages per hour. Navjeevan Press
has 4 folding machines.

(6) Stitching:In this stitching machine stitching can be done. The main
part of this machine is which is used in stitching in on legs.
Capacity of this machine is 5,000 papers of books per day.
Navjeevan Press has 3 stitching machines.

(7) Cutting:-

In this cutting machine cutting of the paper or book can be


done this machine is used to give proper shape to the books.
Once at a time 100 books can be cut. This machine is made in
German. Capacity of this machine is 3,000 books per hour. If
three persons are there Navjeevan Press has two cutting
machines.

CHAPTER -3

HUMAN RESOURACE DEPARTMENT:

3.1 RECRUIMENT AND SELECTION


Organisations do not recruit any person for any post from
last few years.
People working there are from either initially years of
units establishment or are successor of those working earlier.
Change in the technology has also affected recruitment.
Now technology needs fewer employees than before.

3.2 TYPES OF INTERVIEWS


From the last 25 to 30 years, recruitment is not done so
there is a no need for interviews in press.

3.3 PROMOTIONS AND TRAINING


Promotions are depends on over all performance of
workers. Sometimes promotions are depends on subjective
decisions too.
Training method is on the Job training. (In house training)
In house training methods where workers are learn
While are doing their work.

3.4 INCENTIVES AND WELFARE


PROGRAMES
Workers currently are not willing to take incentives as they
want more and get more dialogue is used.
Incentives provided by them are bonus, provident fund,
gratuity to the workers. Also gave money for education of
workers children.
They also provided flat facility and insurance facility.
Navjeevan Printing Press also gave them basic required
facilities like clean drinking water, sufficient rest time etc.

3.5 FRINGE BENEFITS


They provide housing facilities to their employees. They
also provide education facilities to the children of the
organization.

3.6 SAFETY MEASURES


Fire prevention gadgets are there along with storage of
20,000 gallons of water is needed to extinguish fire.
In case of any accident take place in the trust they provide
medical charges to the employees.

3.7 WAGE POLICY


Wage policy is 75% more then minimum wage policy
decided by government. If any changes are not acceptable by
workers they can go to court as the court law forms it.

3.8 INDUSTRIAL RELATION


Relation between union and management are there. They
have good internal relation as the managers are behaving with
workers like their relatives.

MARKETING DEPARTMENT:

4.1 TYPES OF PRODUCT


This trust is mainly engaged in printing different books
related with the whole life of Gandhiji and different articles.
Which were written by Gandhiji It was producing newspapers
named Navjeevan but now its stopped producing this type
newspaper since long time.
They published Gandhijis autobiography in 13th
languages like.

(2) Telugu
(3) Tamil
(4) Gujarati
(5) English
(6) Udaya
(7) Bengali
(8) Malayalam
(9) Hindi
(10) Marathi
(11) Kannada
(12) Assamies

4.2 PRICES DECISIONS


Prices policy is decided by Trust .The price is decide
considering.

Cost price=
Production cost
+ Commissions of different channels of distributors
+ Over rates
+ Profit
+ Other trading charges
If the book is Rs.10/- then the price of the book is Rs.7/- to
the customer to there are 3/- is given to subsidiary to the
customer.
There is also given extra commission of 50% when the
distributors, are sales books for Rs.2 lacs or more.
This type of commission they give the bookseller and
distributor.

FINANCIAL DEPARTMENT:

5.1 INITIAL INVESTMENT


The trust established in 1919 and the initial investment of
the organization was Rs. 10 thousand.

5.2 HOW COST IS CALCULATED


The cost is calculated on actual basis it means that it
includes production charges, commission charges for various
channels of distribution, profit and trading charges etc.
They are counted as

Remaining are over rates and trading charges.

The last year turnover of Navjeevan printing press was
Rs. 1.5 crore.

5.5 FINANCIAL PERFOMANCE


Financial performance of Navjeevan Printing Press was
very good as with out any advertisement support they have
touch Rs.1.5 crore turnovers in last year.
Profit was Rs. 1.5 lacs in the last financial year.

FUTURE PLANS:
The future plan of the press is to Propagate Gandhijis
thought to reach maximum people.
Their future plan is online trading like selling and buying.

CONCLUSION:

By are doing an extensive research over all the aspect. I


have to the conclusion that to the mentioned condition and
circumstances the project is definitely economically and socially
Viable.
I would finally like to conclude my project with high
feeling. This includes thanks giving not only for the valued
co-operation of Navjeevan trust but also our professor who gave
us such a wonderful opportunity to learn so much about the
practical of life.
Through this project I learnt how to deal with people in all
circumstances and how to maintain contacts the theoretical
studies conducted at the college as well as the field work that I
have learnt will definitely help me in enhancing my academic
carrier and come up as an efficient manager.
