JANUARY 2015

Whats happening:

Market Day presentations will take place Friday, January 9th, 2015 from 9:20-11:20
am. PARENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND!

After all projects have been presented, we will spend our lunch time (11:20-12:00)

Miss Emily and Miss Katie have arranged for a field trip to the PA Farm Show
on Thursday, January 15th. We are in need of 3 parent volunteers to chaperone.

During this trip, our class will be participating in the Farm Show Detective program, as
well as the PA Historical Marker Scavenger Hunt. We are very excited for this trip!
Students will need PACKED LUNCHES!

Market Day Projects

DUE:

Friday, January 9th,

2015!

Market Day projects should be close to being completed!

Each child received a country in North/Central America, or possibly a region of

the United States. They have been given an outline of information to research
as well as a rubric so that they are aware of the project requirements!

Your child should be researching their country or region as a series of

homework assignments! With notice, we will gladly give them a bit of time to
research and/or print off information/pictures here at school so that they may
take them home to work on the project.

Once the outline is complete, your child will need to include the information
and relevant pictures on a poster or tri-fold board to present to the class. An
authentic recipe will be a requirement of the project as well. If there are any
problems finding a recipe or purchasing the ingredients, please contact Miss
Katie or Miss Emily.

Due to the extended amount of time given for this project and the holiday break, there will be
NO extensions for this project!

Keep in mind:

Book-It will continue through March! If your child keeps track of the amount of
time they read each night, at the end of the month they will be rewarded
with a Pizza Hut, personal pan pizza coupon!

Scholastic Book Orders are due Friday, January 23rd, 2015. You can order
online with the class code L6XHH or make your checks payable to Scholastic.

Spelling & Vocabulary

New words are given on Mondays and tests will be on Fridays
The 10 words should be practiced throughout the week as homework.
Ive provided them with a variety of fun and engaging practice ideas to help
study those words.

Please take a moment and initial that you have seen or helped your child
practice on their Weekly Recording Charts.
The Sentences and Definition page does NOT count as a spelling activity it is
more of a vocabulary activity as they are not really practicing the spelling of
the word but rather the appropriate way to use the word.

Pickle Bin Week

The first 3 weeks of the month we will focus on completing all classroom work and
assignments. During the 4th week of the month students that have finished all of their
required work will be able to participate in a variety of educational and fun
activities.

Those who are behind in work can use this time to catch up on their missed
assignments, as we will not be adding any new assignments during this week.

If you are interested in volunteering to teach a specific activity or hobby, lead a

craft, or assist with a cooking/baking project, please contact Miss Emily or Miss Katie.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Every evening your student should have homework!!!!

Math Facts! Math Facts! Math Facts!

Reading for at least 20 minutes a night (Dont forget to fill out your colored Reading
Log for Book-It credit).

Study those spelling words!

Please help your child practice their math facts.

Some students will be moving into multi-digit multiplication, while others will be
practicing basic or long division. This is a difficult skill to comprehend if multiplication
facts are not mastered.

They have all been offered flash cards to take home with them.

If you need a set at home, please e-mail Miss Katie to let her know.

Agendas and F.I.S.H. folders

We are working hard to help the students become organized.
We will be setting aside time at the end of each day to help the students get their
agendas filled out properly, as to help eliminate incomplete or missed
assignments.
Please be prepared to review and initial an agenda every evening as well as look
through the F.I.S.H. folder too for important papers and school information.

Thank You!
