Post-Symposium Trip to Lombok (21st-23rd June 2014)

A Post-Symposium cultural tour is being planned to Lombok to visit sites and
performances by the Sasak community and will take place immediately after the
Symposium in Denpasar. The date for the Post-Symposium tour is from Saturday
June 21 to Monday June 23. This tour will be organized through a travel agent in
Lombok with the assistance of David Harnish, Mohd Anis Md Nor and Made
Mantle Hood.
Tentative Tour Itinerary:
Day 1 (Saturday June 21):
The tour will begin on Saturday June 21 with a short flight from Denpasar
to Lombok. The group will be taken to the designated hotel i.e. Hotel Puri
Bunga Sengigi (3 Star) or Santika Hotel (3 Star) before visiting a Sasak
Performing Arts Center to watch gendang beleq, rudat, and gandrung and
perhaps dine on an all Sasak menu in the evening. There is a plan to hire a
Wayang Sasak troupe for an evening performance.
Day 2 (Sunday June 22):
Breakfast at the hotel
Visit Lingsar and tour with a Balinese common priest (pamangku, Wayan
Kereped, the 20-year former head of the Balinese Krama Pura) and the
Sasak pamangku (Suparman Taufiq) to the various temple grounds in the
complex. As many of you know, this has been David Hanishs primary
fieldwork site and he would act as unofficial guide enroute.
Lunch break
A visit to some Sasak villages and to Mayura, which is the former palace
grounds, now more of a water palace.
Return to Hotel and R&R plus shopping in Sengigi or Mataram.
Evening: Free and Dinner on your own
Day 3 (Monday June 23)
Breakfast at the hotel
Check-out
Return Flight to Denpasar
Estimated Cost for the three days tour is USD 200.00 per person.
Estimated number of participants: 25-50 only.
Note:
For those who are planning to join this tour, please make your arrangements to
depart from Denpasar to your home country on the evening of June 23 or
morning of June 24.
