1 Writing and Graphing Inequalities

Textbook Pages: p. 334 339

Definition: a statement that describes how two numbers are not equal; uses one of the
symbols , <, , >, .
Graphing inequalities shows all the possible solutions

Open circles represent NOT equal to

Closed circles represent equal to
arrows and shading represent numbers that are included in the solution
HELPFUL TIP: make sure variable is on the LEFT so you can graph it easier.
Remember: flip flop
o If you have to flip flop the sides of the inequality, you must flip flop
the inequality symbol!
o 3 is greater than n 3 > n
means
n is less than 3 n < 3
