What are hackers?

Hackers are people who use computers to


gain access to other peoples personal data.
By gaining access to a computer, they can
steal private information, most commonly a
users password, credit card information,
addresses, phone numbers, etc.

Why do hackers hack?


Hacking can occur for many reasons:
boredom
to prove that they can do it
to steal files
to steal other peoples identities

How do hackers hack?


The most common way for hackers to hack
is phishing sites, where you enter your
password and its sent directly to the hacker
without the user knowing it.
Keyloggers track down every single
keystroke you type, and these can be sent to
the hacker

Statistics
90% of businesses have
suffered some sort of
computer hack
estimated 30,000 websites
get infected by some type of
malware everyday
over 27 million Americans
have fallen victim to identity
theft over the past 5 years

Albert Gonzalez is one of
the most controversial
hackers in history.
In 2009, he was found guilty
of hacking into multiple
companies computer
systems and was given 20
years in prison.

Penalty varies depending on circumstances

How to be protected against hackers


keep operating system up to
date
be careful what you download
keep your firewall turned on
be aware when entering
important credit card information
online
limit the personal information
you put online

Opinions...
We feel that hacking is bad and should be
stopped.
It can cause a lot of damage to systems and
people.
