Spanish I: This class is designed for Spanish speaking students but will focus more on extended
vocabulary, grammar rules, sentence structure and writing strategies. Students will learn about culture,
specific topic vocabulary and learn reading comprehension skills. Students in this class are expected to
know some reading skills and some basic Spanish vocabulary. Students are expected to converse 50%
of the time in Spanish at the beginning of the school year and end the year with 100% Spanish
speaking in class.
Spanish II: This class is designed for students who have passed the Spanish I expectations and is a
little more rigorous in the Spanish skills needed. Students will continue to learn about culture, are
expected to write elaborate sentences and compose standard essays as well and learn upper level
grammar rules, including but not limited to accent rules, past, present and future tense as well as higher
order vocabulary.
Spanish AP: This AP Spanish Language course is designed to develop proficiency in the Spanish
language and provide the students with a learning experience equivalent to a college course. Students
will be required to complete all assignments on a timely manner, practice only Spanish speaking in
class and prepare for the AP Spanish Language Exam. Students will develop skills in the following
testing criteria:
1. Listening Skills (Short Dialogues and Narratives)
2. Reading Comprehension
3. Writing Skills (Interpersonal Writing and Presentational Writing)(Grammar Skills)
4. Speaking Skills (Interpersonal Speaking and Presentational Speaking)
Six (6) Major TEMAS are covered that will be reviewed throughout the course in preparation for the
SPANISH AP LANGUANGE AND CULTURE EXAMINATION. The TEMAS inclue:

Students, parents, teachers, administrators and counselor must sign a contract at the beginning of the
school year promising to maintain discipline and dedication in preparation for the Spanish AP
Language and Cultural Examination. Students will be required to put forth a lot of time and effort in
their part to keep up with the requirements for this course. All students in the Spanish AP class must
partake in the Spanish Language and Cultural Examination in May to receive high school as well as
college credits.

Materials:

Composition/Spiral notebook to write bellwork, notes, assignments.


Loose notebook paper
Writing utensils
Highlighters
2-pocket folder
Spanish II and Spanish AP USB/Memory Stick
Spanish II and Spanish AP-Binder with 5 dividers

Grading:

Bell work: Students will be graded on bellwork (a monthly calendar given to them in which
they will receive a stamp daily for their bellwork. If a student is absent, they are responsible
for doing the bellwork, showing the teacher when they return in which the teacher will stamp
bellwork for student. Students will be responsible for the calendar and will turn it in at the end
of the six weeks for a test grade.
Spelling Test/Quizzes: Students will be given 12 spelling words that are being reviewed and
studied through that specific subject/chapter.
Cultura:Students will learn the components of culture and will be expected to write the
different components of the city,state,country being studied that specific chapter.
Chapter Exams: Spanish I and II are accompanied with required chapter exams.
Daily/Homework: to assure that students are grasping concept, homework will be assigned
occassionally.

Projects:
Teacher can assign projects and different times of the year, depending on subject being studied.
These projects will have a rubrics and students will be given ample amount of time to complete the
project. These projects will be take for a test grade. Some example of projects are:
Spanish I-Menu/Story booklets using vocabulary
Spanish II-Restaurant skits/recipe
Policies:

Tardies: Teacher will follow BISD policy/handbook:


1st tardy-verbal warning
2nd tardy- parent phone call and assign lunch detention
3rd tardy-parent conference
Late work: Due to the fact that elective teachers have a higher number of students in their
classes, it is the responsibility of the student to make arrangements with teacher for work before
or after class. Arrangements must be made in advance for afterschool tutorial. A 1 day
extended time for excused absences will be alloted to students (unless otherwise stated on
modifications/accomodations page or medical situations). If work is not turned in with that day,
the student will receive a zero and will be unable to make up the assignment.
Classroom Etiquette: Follow the golden rule: Due unto others as you would have them do
unto you. A student is expected to respect school teacher and other students property. Any
violations of this and BISD policy will be followed.

Parents are encouraged to check the status of their students grades through Home
Access Center (HAC) program and may contact me at any time through e-mail or school
phone.
