Welcome back and Happy New Year!!


I hope everyone had a res ul break.
In Language this month we are working on procedural wri ng. We began with an
experiment on how to make popsicles. Students are con nuing by exploring a
topic of their choice in partners. Next week students will complete an
independent task. We learned to be accurate and careful when wri ng a
procedure. We will begin our inferring unit in two weeks. Students are working on
decoding and reading comprehension this week, and next.

In Math we have introduced our


unit on 2D and 3D Geometry.
Students are working on
describing, composing and
sor ng 2D shapes. Some
important vocabulary words are
edges, ver ces, equal, and
parallel. We will also explore
lines of symmetry. They will
move onto 3D figures in two
weeks.

In Science we have a few topics le


to cover including, buoyancy,
absorp on, hazardous substances,
and the impact of freezing and
mel ng on our environment. This
week we explored reversible
change, by making and then ea ng
popsicles. We introduced this
topic by building snowmen
before Christmas and observing
what happened when they were
brought indoors.
