Mica
India, Nepal

Mica is extracted from Quartz rock .It is broken into particle

sizes that can be worked with in a "rod mill"
The sand and Mica mixture then is separated into 24" in
diameter spirals that stand approximately 8" high. They
look like mini amusement park waterslides, over a thousand
are used at the mine.
Differences in density allow sand to be spun away from the
Mica.
In paint industry, it is used as pigment extender
Ground mica reduces weathering of the film and is used in
plastic surgery as a extender/filler and a reinforcing agent
Sheet mica is used in electronics especially for insulation
Because of the importance in electrical composition, mica is
used both internally and exported to the world.
India produces worlds 60% of mica, and because of its
significance in the electrical industry, the economy is
booming
In order to mine, the people would have to clear forests
and the animals flee. The system changes and the chemical
compositions in the mining hurts the environment; the
water and soil is damaged that nothing really grows
