January Happenings

: This month in reading we will focus on retelling non-fiction

texts with key details. We will use our knowledge of characters, setting and major
events in fictional stories to help us compare and contrast. We will also
concentrate on learning the differences between a story and a poem.

: We will continue working on identifying letter

sounds in words, producing rhyming words, and reading common sight words.

We are continuing to use bright beginning and working on

stretching our stories to include more details. Students will be writing stories that
will include detailed pictures with labels that match the written words, capital
letters, spaces and punctuation.

We will begin to discover measurement attributes and practice

describing, comparing, and classifying objects and numbers. Students will learn
how to determine which object is smaller/larger.

Students will explore Earth, space and time through the solar

system. They will exam concepts such as near and far or big and small.

We have a field trip coming up in February. We are going to the Museum of Science and History,
MOSH. If you would like your student to attend return their signed form
and $12 to your teacher before Wednesday, January 28thth.
We also wanted to say thanks for all your help during the holidays! Your
help made it a fun learning time for our students! THANKS!
