Bowling Information Sheet

1. Bowling
a. Only one person on the approach at a time. If both step up on the
approach at the same time, yield to the person on the right.
b. Avoid lofting the ball down the lane.
c. Gutter - a long, narrow low section along the sides of a bowling lane
d. Foul Line - a line on an alley at right angles to the gutters and 60 feet
from the center of the spot for the headpin, across which a bowler may not
step for fair delivery of the ball.
e. Bowling Lane - a long, narrow wooden lane or alley, for the game of
tenpins.
f. Approach Area 15-foot area located for the bowler to approach his/her
release ending at the foul line.
g. If a ball goes into the gutter the bowler scores a zero. If the ball goes into
the bounces back out and hits pin(s) it does not count.
h. There are a total of ten pins located at the end of the bowling lane.
i. The pins are placed in the shape of a triangle with the 1 pin at the top
followed by 2, 3, and 4 pins.
j. The pins 7 and 10 are located on the outsides of the base of the pin
triangle.
k. All pins will earn the bowling 1-point.
l. Strike When a bowler knocks down all the pins with the ball on the first
attempt.
m. Spare When a bowler knows down all the pins on the second attempt.
n. Split When the first ball of a frame knocks down the headpin, but leaves
two or more non- adjacent pins up.
o. Turkey Three strikes in a row.
p. Open Frame Leaving pins up at the end of a frame.
q. There are 10 frames in one game.
r. SCORING
i. The number of pins hit is the score the bowler receives.
ii. If a bowler bowls a spare Mark a slash down on the score sheet.
The bowler will receive 10 pins plus the pin fall of the next single
ball delivery.
iii. If a bowler bowls a strike the bowler receives 10 pins plus the total
of the next frame.
iv. If a bowler bowls two strikes in a row the bowler will receives 10
pins for each strike plus the next first try of the third frame.
s. No bowler can cross the foul line under any circumstance. If any body part
crosses the foul line the attempt doesnt count.
