HOW THE WORLD

WORKS
Materials behave and
change in many ways.

Reflections
Last week we began our new Unit of Inquiry. The children have been exploring different states of matter and learning to recognize the properties and classify them. We
have all settled really well back into school after the holidays and have been reminding
ourselves of the expectations inside and outside of the classroom. We have Classroom
Agreements to remind us of the good choices we can make.

Learning engagements:
Language: This week we will be learning to recognize the split a rule when reading, and looking in
depth at the book not a box. We will be using ideas from this to invent new things from boxes, discuss
the idea of fiction and non-fiction as well as use this as a way to consolidate our knowledge of the form
of States of Matter.
Maths: For Maths this week we will be learning to play a few cultural mathematics games and the
students will work together to create and teach others their own mathematics games.
Social studies/Science: This week we will be beginning our first Line of Inquiry, properties and
behaviours of basic materials. We will be using our senses to explore gasses, liquids and solids and be
able to classify and describe each. We will be continuing to ask and answer questions for our Wonder
Wall as well.
