Week of January 11-15

Reading

This week we are incorporating our new Unit

of Inquiry, which involves explorers, into our
reading block. The focus is on informational
text and improving comprehension through
recognizing specific internal features (such as
italics, bold print, headings and subheadings,
graphics, sidebars), as well as external
features (such as cause and effect, comparing
and contrasting, and sequential/chronological
organization).

Math
This week we are continuing
work in Unit Four, which focuses
on division. The students have
learned a new method of division called the partial-quotient
algorithm. They will conduct
further practice using this method, as well as gain experience
making estimates for quotients.
Students will also gain experience developing strategies for
for estimating distances using a
map scale.
