Dear Parents,
You are cordially invited to the first ever Grade 2 Art Museum Extravaganza. We are showcasing what we have
learned about How We Express Ourselves through art. Students will be able to go home with you at 2:30, and
the school says we may not check out early. We will meet you on the playground when our class is all ready to go.
When: Thursday, January 15th, 2015. 2:00-2:30pm
Where: New Multipurpose Room

Literacy

Students will finish their narratives in class.

Home Connection: Please have your child pick their favorite fairy tale or other narrative to read to you and then
tell you the lesson that is learned. They can also identify the characters, setting, and the problem . Please ask your
child the following questions: Why is there a problem? What is happening in the story? What is the most exciting part and
how do you know?
Also, please ask them how the story ends.

Math

Shapes (angles, sides, edges, vertices)

Add and Subtract to 1000

Home Connection: Please ask your child to identify shapes around their environment. Have them try
to draw it and identify the number of sides, edges, angles and vertices. Your child may bring in any
drawing that they do to share with the class this week.

Unit
Please ask your child the following questions:
1. What is art?
2. Why is there art?
3. How does art make you feel?
4. How do our experiences influence art?
The students will be finishing up their projects by this Tuesday. Their artwork will be on display for
4th grade students on Wednesday and parents on Thursday this week.
