discos want better
off season plan

The Balearic Disco and
Nightclub Association
yesterday warned that
the lack of a concrete
plans to boost off season tourism is threatening their trade.

summer employ some
15,000 people, has called for
the authorities to come up
with a medium to long term

solution to the problem,


claiming that laws which
change with every government are not helping the
industry.
Winters are already a
tough season for business,
but the lack of a firm strategy is making things even
worse, Sanchez added.
We cannot sit back and
live off what the summer
season gives us.
This past summer figures
were good but its still far
bellow those achieved back
in 2008.
Sanchez also explained

that most venues have already started to prepare for


the summer season, making
the most of this quiet period
to refurbish their premises.
Particular attention has
been given to those located
in the Playa de Palma and
Palmanova.
Sanchez said that most
businesses are expected to
open towards the end of
March and close at the end
of October.
For now, those located on
thePaseoMaritimowillcontinue to open on weekends
and on some bank holidays.

Small companies in
the Balearics are in the
top three in Spain in
terms of the number of
computers per worker
and access to the internet.
Almost 77 percent of
companies employing 10
or less workers have access to a computer and
71.9 have access to the
internet, compared with
the 72.3 percent and 67.7
percent average in Spain.
Nonetheless local companies are still below the
average when it comes to
wireless networks, number of workers with company telephones or their
own web page.
According to a recent repor t, 74.2 percent of
Balearic companies related to the tourism trade
have access to the web.
In the manufacturing
trade figures reached the
67.1 percent mark, while
in the construction sector
numbers rose to 63.1 percent.
