Whats happening in Grade 3/4?

Welcome back!
What are we working on? In math, our unit is
geometry and one of our central goals is to
understand the relationships between twodimensional shapes and three-dimensional
figures. In language, we are writing a personal
narrative about a Christmas memory. Our
reading comprehension strategy is asking good
questions. The classroom circles goal that we
have set for our first couple of weeks back is to
take responsibility for our actions and words. In
physical education, we have been progressing
in our basketball skills and knowledge.

Thank you to everyone who

helped with our December
activities! We had an exciting
final week before the holidays,
complete with therapy dog
Dakotas visit, the bowling trip,
our Advent prayer service
involvement, and finally, our
Christmas celebration! Students
were thrilled to take home their
gifts. They carefully prepared
their personalized wrapping
paper design (a math patterning
task), their snowman cards, and
their ornament. I hope you all had
a very blessed Christmas.

Dear Families,
Literacy Week 2015 is taking place during the week of January 26th. Our classroom has
some exciting literacy activities planned. Each day, some students will read their favourite
book to the class (schedule is below). Students can begin thinking about which book to
read. Your child will practice reading this book to you at home with an expressive voice.
Also, if you have any literacy board games that our class could borrow from January 26 to
January 29, please let me know.
Monday: Literacy Visitors Day. We are inviting a few parents or grandparents to come
and read their favourite book to us. Are you interested? Please notify me by Jan. 16.
Tuesday: Family Literacy Day is today and we will celebrate with a Read In by inviting
other classes and staff members to come and read with us in our room. We will be
having a day full of literacy activities that tie into our other subjects. Your child may to
bring a pillow and a stuffed animal from home to use for the day if he/she chooses.
Wednesday: Riddles Day. Students bring in tricky riddles. We will try to stump each
other and will develop problem solving strategies.
Thursday: T-Shirt Read Day. Students are encouraged to wear a t-shirt with print on it
(for example, a saying). We will discuss our shirts as part of our media studies.
