Importing Piston File into ANSYS


The following are step-by-step procedures for importing the piston geometry into ANSYS.
Importing the .igs file:
Note: Before starting ANSYS, unzip the file piston_quarter_geometry.zip using a program such as
Winzip.
(GoTo Utility Menu)
File
Import
IGES
Iges Import Option: No defeaturing
MERGE Merge coincident keypts?: Check Yes
SOLID Create solid if applicable: Check Yes
SMALL Delete small areas?: Check Yes
OK

Click Browse and select the .igs file & OK

Creating the geometry from the .log file:


Note: Before starting ANSYS, in WebCT click on the link Piston Geometry Log File. Select all of the
ANSYS code, copy and paste it into a blank notepad (or other text editor) file. Save the file as
piston_geometry.txt.
Method 1:
(GoTo Utility Menu)

Read Input from
Select the file piston_geometry.txt & OK

Method 2:
(GoTo Utility Menu)
In the ANSYS Command Prompt, paste the lines of code and press Enter.

Select all of the code, copy and paste it here.
