Course Name and Description:

The purpose of the ninth grade social studies curriculum is to increase students' knowledge of the development of the United
States as a democratic nation. The course is organized as a chronological survey of the American past from the American
home front during World War II to 9/11. Emphasis will be placed on major events, individuals and ideas comprising our
American heritage. Students will increase their knowledge of historical insights and the development of democratic values.
They will enhance their skills in processing and evaluating information. Knowledge of our past will help the students
understand our present and encourage citizen involvement to make changes for a better future.
