Section 4.1

Angle ________________________________________________________________________________
Label the diagram with : Initial side, terminal side and vertex.

Coterminal Angles ______________________________________________________________________

Radian Measure _______________________________________________________________________
2 radians = 360
radians = 180
/2 radians = 90
Finding coterminal angles: Add/Subtract multiples of 360 if angle is in degrees or 2 if the angles is in
radian measure.
Ex: Find one positive and one negative coterminal angle for (a)118.

(b)

(c) -315

Complementary Angles _________________________________________________________________

Supplementary Angles__________________________________________________________________
Ex: Find the complementary and supplementary angles for (a)

Converting from radian measure to degrees :

Converting from degrees to radian measure:

Degrees, Minutes, Seconds: (DMS) :

Although the subdivision of a degree may be obtained by using decimals we also

may use the notation of minutes and seconds. One minute, denoted by 1' , is defined
as

1
1
degree. One second, denoted by 1'' ,is defined as
degree
60
3600

Arclength:

s=

To find arclength:
Step1: Convert degrees to radians
Step 2: Use the formula, s = r

Linear/Angular Speed Word Problems

Step 1: Draw a diagram
Step 2: Write down everything you know. Include variables for things you dont
know, but want to find.
Step 3: Find any formulae that relates everything you know. Be aware of any unit
conflicts you might have! If needs to be in rad/time unit so always convert to
that! All length dimensions must also be in the same units. Use UNIT
CONVERSIONS to do this!
Step 4: Plug things in!
