November 10: International Finance Corp (IFC) arm of World Bank issued 10 billion rupee
Masala bond to fund infrastructure development. The so-called Masala bonds mark the first
rupee bonds listed on the London Stock Exchange. The name masala bond is the Indian
counterpart of the Dim Sum bond applied to Chinese offshore issues of IFC. Bonds issued
inside India by IFC are known as Maharaja Bonds.
November 11: Reserve Bank of India tightened its norms for Non-Banking Financial Companies
(NBFCs) by requiring them to have a much stronger capital base. Failing to which, the NBFCs
would lose their CoR (Certificate of Registration). NBFCs have been given time till March 2017
to comply with the norms.
November 19: Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency Ltd ( IREDA) and US ExportImport (Exim) Bank signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with respect to cooperation
on clean energy investment.
November 25: State Bank of India (SBI) Mutual Fund (MF) announced that it will launch Shariah
Equity Fund on 1 December 2014. The fund is aimed at attracting investments from Muslim
populations of India. The fund has been approved by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board,
an authority that oversees the observance of Muslim civil laws in India.
November 26: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) directed Foreign Portfolio
Investor (FPI) to ensure compliance with all necessary norms of Foreign Portfolio Investment
(FPI) Regulations before issuing Offshore Derivative Instruments (ODIs) especially participatory
notes (P-notes) with immediate effect. With respect to this SEBI issued the guidelines outlining
the details.
November 26: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to sell worth 2000 crore rupees
government bonds through Open Market Operations (OMOs) to squeeze the liquidity in the
market.
November 27: The Reserve Bank of India on 27 November 2014 issued Guidelines for
Licensing of Small Finance Banks in the Private Sector. As per the issued guidelines, the
minimum paid-up equity capital for small finance banks shall be 100 crore rupees.
November 28: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) released guidelines for Licensing of Payments
Banks. These guidelines will allow mobile firms and supermarket chains, among others, to enter
the banking arena to cater to individuals and small businesses.
The objectives of payments banks will be to further financial inclusion by providing small
savings accounts and payments or remittance services to migrant labour workforce, low
income households, small businesses, other unorganized sector entities and other users.
November 29: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) eased gold imports and scrapped 20:80
scheme. The decision to withdraw the 20:80 scheme will cut smuggling of gold and raise legal
shipments into India.
In 2013, the 20:80 scheme was introduced to bring down inbound shipments, sliding rupee and
to combat a huge current account deficit (CAD) along with a hike in import duty to 10 percent.
National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for construction of a five kilometer stretch of a fourlane highway linking to the port.
November 3: Veteran Bollywood actor Sadashiv Amrapurkar died on 3 November 2014 in Mumbai
following lung infection. He was also a director and writer and won a number of prestigious awards
in theatre and film.
November 3: Central Zone won the 2014-15 Duleep Trophy title of cricket by defeating South
Zone in the finals played at Feroz Shah Kotla Ground, Delhi with 9 runs. This was the first Duleep
title for Central zone in ten seasons and the narrowest win in the tournaments history, in terms of
runs.
November 3: Fourth International Counter-Piracy Conference was held in Dubai from 29 30
October 2014. The theme of the Conference was Securing State Recovery: Sustaining Momentum
at Sea, Confronting Instability Land. The Conference was hosted by UAE Ministry of Foreign
Affairs in partnership with global marine terminal operator DP World.
November 4:The International Olympic Committee (IOC) welcomed the United Nations resolution
on Sports as a means to promote education, health, development and peace.
November 5: Global rating agency Standard & Poor lowered credit rating of state-owned Indian
Overseas Bank (IOB) to speculative grade.
November 5: The United States (US) became the partner country for Vibrant Gujarat Global
Investor Summit 2015.
November 7: Indian-origin British politician Nigel Keith Anthony Standish Vaz known as Keith Vaz
was named as the Labour MP of the year 2014.
November 7: Telangana Finance Minister Rajinder on 5 November 2014 speared the first budget
of the state in the Assembly. The state government proposed an expenditure of 100637 crore
rupees for the financial year 2014-15.
November 7: Senior IRS officer Anita Kapur was appointed as the new chairperson of the Central
Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex authority of the Income-Tax Department. She succeeded
K V Chowdary who retired on 31 October 2014.
November 9: An Indian-originated radiographer Dr Fawzia Peer was on 9 November 2014 elected
November 24: Adani Power signed a binding agreement with Gautam Thapar-led Avantha Group
to buy its Korba West Power Co Ltd (KWPCL) unit. Adani will buy the 600 MW coal based power
plant unit of Avantha group in at 4200 crore rupees. The 600-MWs coal based power plant is at
Korba in Chhattisgarh.
November 25: Three global organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to end
open defecation in India. The agreement is for three years.
These three organizations are the World Toilet Organization (WTO), WASTE and the Financial
Inclusion Improves Sanitation and Health (FINISH).
November 25: IAS officer Kiran Gurrala was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of
Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on 24 November 2014.
November 26: The Union Ministry of Sports honored Olympics Gold winning Hockey Team of
1964. They were honored during the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of 1964 Tokyo
Olympics where Indian hockey team had defeated Pakistan by 1-0 and won a gold medal.
November 27: Union Government launched Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) Scheme or Evisa to make travel of foreigners to India on Tourist Visa on Arrival (TVOA) facility easier. The
scheme is available for 43 countries to boost tourism to India.
November 28: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Kathmandu, Nepal from 27 November to 28
November 2014. He visited Nepal as a part of 18th SARRC Summit.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi also had bilateral interactions with all six leaders of SAARC
member countries to develop closer neighbourly ties, except Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz
Sharif.
November 29: Major General Gadi Eizenkot appointed as 21st Chief of Staff of the Israel Defence
Forces (IDF).
Overseas Bank (IOB) due to speculative grade from BB+ to BB.The rating will remain weak
over the next 12 months.
November 5: The Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) and the

dollars in October 2014 resulting into widening of trade deficit to 13.3 billion US dollars in

BACKGROUND
On 26 May 2014, head of state/head of government of all SAARC nations attended the
Swearing-in ceremony of Narendra Modi in New Delhi and the following day they have held
high level discussion with the newly appointed Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi which was
dubbed as the mini SAARC summit in the media. There it was agreed to revitalize the SAARC
initiative and a summit was agreed upon in Nepal at the earliest Started on November 26, the
two-day SAARC Summit was the 18th session of the multilateral organisation.Incheon was
awarded the right on April 17, 2007, defeating Delhi, India to host the Games. Incheon was the
third city in South Korea after Seoul (1986) and Busan (2002) to host the Asian Games.

AGENDA
Foreign Ministers of the eight member states signed an agreement on energy cooperation
namely 'SAARC Framework Agreement for Energy Cooperation (Electricity)' in the presence of
their heads of state and government during the concluding ceremony of the 18th SAARC
Summit on 27 November. Although Pakistan stalled, citing insufficient internal preparations,
signing of two other agreements on Vehicular Traffic and Railways respectively. Although
Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, current SAARC Chair, expressed his hope that the
'Regulation of Passenger and Cargo Vehicular Traffic amongst SAARC Member States', and
'SAARC Regional Agreement on Railways' would be signed later after the Transport Ministers
of these countries reviewed them. It was also decided that Pakistan will host the next summit in
2016.
The 1st edition of IFFI was organized by the Films Division, Government of India, with the
patronage of the first Prime Minister of India. Held in Mumbaifrom 24 January to 1 February
1952the Festival was subsequently taken to Madras, Delhi, Calcutta and Trivandrum.In all it
had about 40 features and 100 short films. In Delhi, the IFFI was inaugurated by Prime Minister
Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru on 21 February 1952.

AGENDA
The main objectives of the summit were to "provide strategic priority for growth,
financial rebalancing and emerging economies, investment and infrastructure,
and employment and labour mobility Professor of international finance law at the
University of New South Wales Ross Buckley suggested that the summit should
have emphasised the implementation of existing strategies rather than seeking
agreement towards reforms.
Climate change was not included as a subject for discussion at the summit;
Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott stated he did not want the agenda
"cluttered" by subjects that would distract from economic growth. Officials from
the European Union and United States of America were reported to be unhappy
with this decision.At each of the previous summits climate change was included
on the agenda.
