I
know
firsthand
how
a
college
education
can
change
your
life
for
the
better,
which
is
why
Ive
focused
a
lot
of
time
and
energy
on
programs
geared
to
first-generation
and
under-
represented
students.
Mason
has
also
dedicated
considerable
attention
to
raising
funds
to
support
scholarships,
research,
and
facilities.
Since
2008,
the
university
has
raised
$1.4
billion
dollars
and
is
well
on
its
way
to
reaching
its
comprehensive
campaign
goal
of
$1.7
billion
by
2017.
Before
coming
to
the
University
of
Iowa,
Mason
served
as
provost
of
Purdue
University.
She
was
trained
as
a
cell
and
developmental
biologist
and
is
married
to
a
fellow
biologist,
Ken
Mason,
who
is
an
educator
and
textbook
author.
