2015-2016 Audition Information

Dear Parents and Star Hopefuls,
I am very excited that your child is interested in trying out for the Stars Dance Team. There are many aspects
of being a Star that you and your child need to consider before trying out and hopefully this letter will give you
an idea of what Stars is all about.
Commitment and dedication by the Stars and their parents are required to be a member. There are before
and/or after school practices, late night games, all day fundraising events, parades, pep rallies, competitions,
and so much more. In order to work as a team, each member is expected to attend and be highly involved in
everything the Stars do.
Hard work and discipline are necessary to be the best at what we do, and that is always our goal. Being a
member of the Stars teaches the girls responsibility, self-discipline, maturity, and dependability. For a member
of a team like the Stars, there is a time for glory and recognition, but also a time for conformity and sacrifice. I
expect the Stars to have high moral standards for themselves and their teammates and to act responsibly in
and out of uniform.
However, despite and because of all the above, being on Stars will be a rewarding experience that will give
your daughter friendships, memories, and lessons that will last a lifetime. Your daughter will develop
confidence and discipline as well as dance training. Being a member of an organization such as Stars has
been and will be the highlight of many girls high school years. The feeling of accomplishment and hard work
paying off with outstanding performances and increased technical ability are just some of the rewards that
await each member of the Stars dance and drill team.
1. The Frisco High School Stars is a school organization composed of freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and
seniors. Those trying out will be judged on ability, personal presentation, projection, and showmanship.
a. Star Hopefuls will need to attend the Stars Hopeful Clinic where the Stars Director and Officers
will teach stretching techniques, a jazz/hip hop dance, a kick routine, and other skills to be
demonstrated in the tryout. The Clinic will be held Tuesday- Thursday March 17th -19th from
4:30pm 6:00pm.
b. Star Hopefuls will need to attend the Stars Tryouts on Friday March 20th at 4:30pm. They will
last about 3.5 hours, but it is unsure how long exactly (depends on how many are trying out!).
Tryouts are closed to everyone except those who are assisting with tryouts, judges, and
administrators. Your child may be called back to do the tryout combination again if the judges
wish.
i. Judging Criteria: Judges will only know you by your number- no names are used. An
individual must score between 70-100 points to make the 2013-2014 STARS Dance Team.
c. Candidates must wear appropriate dance attire to clinic. Dance clothing is preferred or clothing you
can completely move in.
d. Candidates must pull their hair up and off their faces for both clinic and tryouts. You must wear
makeup for the tryouts- you want to get used to projecting the image of a performing dance team
member.
e. For Tryouts, candidates must wear a black leotard or black dance top (spaghetti strap, etc.) black
dance pants (must be fitted); jazz shoes or thin soled tennis shoes. You must wear dance pants or
tights- no bare legs! No bras showing!
f. You will need to complete and submit the following forms no later than March 17th: find them on
our website www.friscostarsdance.com (under the tryout tab)
i. The FHS Stars Application (via google doc)
ii. Participation Contract
iii. Physical Evaluation
iv. Report card print out

Should your daughter make the 2014-2015 Stars team; there are some dates and obligations that will be
required of her:

**If your daughter is not able to attend any of the summer camps, then she may not be eligible
to perform for the first part of football season.
