Careers Personal Statement

Reflect on what you consider to be an important personal experience related to your

interests or commitments. Tell us what you learned about yourself. How will this experience
prepare you for success at college?

Rather than a single experience, I have a continuous experience in my AP Biology class.

We often learn about disease and other biological phenomena that have remained unanswered
and unexplained. My teacher always indicates if certain diseases have no cure or if certain
biological occurrences have no explanation. Along with this indication, she enjoys to say If you
figure this out, you can win a Nobel Prize! I regularly ask questions and propose solutions to
unexplained biological processes or functions. The enthusiasm that my teacher provides me has
inspired me to study Biology in greater depth.
From this curiosity, I have learned of my innate inquisitiveness towards discovery
related to biology and general science. I often ponder about other fields of science, but I feel
most confident in Biology. The field of biology is voluminous and due to its massive size, much
of its contents are yet still undiscovered. In addition to my inquisitiveness, I have found that I
would enjoy helping others who suffer from various diseases and ailments. The study of biology
has the potential of curing all diseases and providing a better future for generations to come.
I believe that the most efficient motivation to study is to have enthusiasm for the topic in
question. I have been fueled enthusiasm from my teacher and of course, I have my own desire to

study biology and make a positive impact on the world. I would show the same curiosity and
desire to learn in a college class as I would in my high school class. Perhaps, even more so in the
college class, as the course material and subjects would most definitely be more difficult and
broad. However, I would not let any level of difficulty make me falter in my dream to pursue
biology. After all, the future is in biology, and there is no better person to study biology than
someone who has a real passion for it and the overall goal of helping others.
