TIFF donation encourages student film buffs

Students from Centennial Centre for Creative Communications have been

honoured to receive film donations from the Toronto International Film Festival. TIFF
donated 35 films from the 2010 festival to Centennials film and broadcasting
program as part of an ongoing commitment to education and community outreach.
This is the first time TIFF has ever made such a donation. The films are available to
all students to view in the school library.
Im hoping these films will give the students a chance to study different
types and styles of film making, said Cameron Bailey, co-director of TIFF. Bailey
visited the centre for a brief ceremony to present the collection to students and
faculty.
TIFF was encouraged to make the donation by Chris Terry, a film and
broadcasting faculty member. Ive known Cameron for years, said Terry. I thought
this would be a great opportunity not only for the students in the film appreciation
course, but for all students to view the films.
This donation gives students the opportunity to learn from professionals in
the film industry by studying their work. Bailey presented a symbolic film canister at
the ceremony. Students can remember this donation and enjoy the films right here
at the centre, says Shel Reisler, the program coordinator for film and broadcasting.
A thank you plaque commemorating TIFFs donation will be placed in the main
hallway to pay tribute to the film industry.
