WHY DID THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION


OCCUR?
In the end, the American Revolution grew out of
increasing restrictions placed upon the colonies
(Americans) by the British.

STAMP ACT
The Stamp Act required Americans to purchase tax stamps for
any printed documents including newspapers, legal
documents, marriage licenses and more.
-Brought into law by the British Government
-A method to raise finance for the British Crown.

REACTION
What reactions do you expect the American took when the

The Americans believed that they should not have to pay tax as

Because British companies like East India Company would not
have to pay the tax on tea, they could sell their tea for a
cheaper price than could companies based in the Americas.
The colonists were forced to pay taxes to a government run by
leaders they did not elect. The colonists also had no say in
the laws that these leaders passed.

BOSTON TEA PARTY


Parliament shut down Boston Harbour, as part of a series of
laws that became known as the Intolerable Acts, or Coercive
Acts.
The colonists organized military resistance and petitioned the
British government to repeal the Intolerable Acts.
The Tea Party increased conflict between Britain and the
colonists, eventually leading to war
