National accreditation

Structured learning

All our professional accounting programmes are recognised

worldwide. The ACCA, CAT and ICAEW have been given
full accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency
(MQA). Approval for the CFAB pathway is granted under the
ICAEW programme as the CFAB modules are the same six
knowledge modules of the ICAEW.

Our programmes are structured to fully prepare

students for their examinations and consist of lectures,
tutorials and effective revision classes. There are also
internal progress tests and mock exams which are set
distinctly like the actual examinations.

The ACCA Approved Learning

Partner awarded with Platinum Status
for eight consecutive years
We are the first in the world outside the European Union
to be awarded the Platinum Approved Learning Partner
Status by the ACCA in 2007, a status we have maintained
till now. This status is achieved upon meeting stringent
performance indicators such as pass rates which surpass
those of the world, effective management and relevant
support services.

Our students can have the convenience of taking their

computer-based assessments in a familiar environment
and can be assured of hassle-free assessment
registration.

experiences in a campus environment

Learning in Malaysia

A student life at Sunway is not confined to just the

Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz.

Sunway-TES is the only active ICAEW Partner in Learning in

Malaysia and has been providing quality teaching for the
ICAEW programme since 2004.

CAT Certified Accounting

Technician
CAT / ACCA

The Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) is a vocational

qualification designed by ACCA that will allow you to support the
work of professional accountants. The final-level examinations
are equivalent in standard to the first year of a university degree
programme. Consequently, CAT graduates are allowed to move
directly to Fundamentals Level (Skills module).
The knowledge, skills and practical experience you have gained
while studying the CAT qualification can exempt you from certain
papers and count towards the practical experience requirement
of the ACCA Qualification.
There are nine examinations to the CAT, which are split into
four levels. Each level is designed to test the knowledge, skills
and understanding needed to work in accounting support roles.
As well as completing your examination, you will have to gain
a minimum of one year relevant experience while undergoing
your financial training to achieve the Technician qualification.
When you have fulfilled the criteria for Certified Accounting
Technician status, ACCA will confer on you the title of Certified
Accounting Technician and you will be able to use the letters
CAT after your name.
The CAT qualification could be your stepping stone to the ACCA
Qualification and membership of the global body for professional
accountants.

Exam Structure
The ACA exam structure
The ACA comprises two stages the Professional Stage and the Advanced Stage.
Professional Stage modules
The Professional Stage consists of knowledge modules which introduce
you to the core concepts underpinning accountancy, and the application
modules where you can demonstrate how you can develop and apply
technical knowledge and skills.
Advanced Stage modules
The Advanced Stage is where the ACA demonstrates its world-leading
quality. The modules will stretch you to adopt a multi-disciplinary approach
and prove that you can use judgment as well as technical and analytical
skills.
The Case Study, which is based on a Harvard Business School model, will
test your professional skills in the context of a specific business issue and
challenge you on multiple areas of the syllabus.
Ethics, technical work experience and initial professional development are
integrated throughout both stages. This supports your business decisionmaking and puts your learning into context.

ICAEW World Prizes

Since the inception of this programme in 2004, our students have emerged with the highest marks in the ACA
examinations globally, and have been awarded a total of 6 prizes in the Professional Stage Order of Merit. In addition,
two of our students were awarded the 2nd and 5th placing in the Professional Stage Overall Order of Merit, placing
them in the top 0.5 percent quartile of achievers in the ACA qualification worldwide.

The ICAEW was a natural choice due to its unrivalled global reputation and versatility. It was a challenge
managing the rigorous exams and the demands of work at the same time but I have no regrets.
Chew Shee Ghee

1st place and Watts Prize, December 2004 (Audit & Assurance)
1st place and Little Prize, December 2005 (Taxation)
2nd place and Stephens Prize, September 2005-December 2006

Obtaining the 1st place and Watts prize for the Audit & Assurance paper was extremely exciting, especially given
the fact that the ICAEW ACA qualification is ranked as one of the most prestigious qualifications in the world.
Gan Yu Chen

studying the ACA has helped me integrate what I have learnt in my daily work

have given me insights which cannot be learnt from the textbook.

Graduates

Our first cohort of students successfully completed the ICAEW programme in the November
2007 examinations. Since then until the November 2010 examinations, a total of 95 ICAEW
students benefited from our tuition programme and graduated as Chartered Accountants. They
are now involved in various businesses and industries, with many holding senior positions in their
respective organisations.
This is a testimony of our team of qualified and experienced lecturers and what can be achieved
on a mentor (lecturers) and mentee (students) basis.

The lecturers teach in a way that enables me to understand the syllabus easily. They give plenty of exercises
so that I can practise as much as possible.

Sunways team of lecturers taught us workable strategies on top of content. Time and again, they have clearly
laid out important areas where students should not compromise and should continually work on, and not merely
study the entire syllabus by rote.

Sunway lecturers form an integral part of my success. I appreciate their sacrifices, and

Ms Rozi, my Taxation lecturer really motivated me to aim high. She often told us that we should always aim for
the stars so even if we missed that, wed land among the clouds. Her lectures on life really inspired me to study
harder.

I am grateful to my lecturers at Sunway who impart knowledge that stimulates

Safety & security

Eating outlets and places to chill out are aplenty

on and around campus. The spacious cafeteria
is a great on-campus place to hang out which
includes a canteen and more than 10 different
stalls that serve full meals or snacks at reasonable
prices. Beyond the campus compound, students
are spoilt for choice by the many restaurants and
an immensely popular food centre, all offering an
endless variety of delicious food with something
for everyone at a student-friendly budget.

Here, the committed security team is made up

of Auxiliary Police and trained professionals who
work around the clock to ensure that every day is a
smooth and peaceful one.
Whenever a student feels under the weather, they
can make their way to the sick bay. Endearingly
known as Nightingale Bay, it is situated near the
cafeteria where a matronly Registered Nurse is on
duty and well-equipped to handle minor ailments.
