Dear Parents or Guardians,

The X Line from Harold M. Brathwaite Secondary School is a business project team that plans
for future activities for the students in the school. The X Line is giving the grade nine students
an opportunity to go on a trip to Muskoka, Ontario. During this trip your child will be given a
chance to do many fun activities based on the school curriculum.
We want you to be aware that the trip is a two day trip. We will be leaving on January 19th,
2015 at 7:00am and will come back to the school building on January 20th, 2015 at 6:00pm.
We except students to be in the school building by 6:45am. The fee we are asking students to
bring is $109.00.
We will be providing transportation for the students. We will be renting two buses from the
Magic Bus Company. The school will be paying for most of the activities we will be taking
part in during the trip. We have also booked a hotel for the students to stay in. We will be
staying in Econo Lodge Hotel. Your child does not need to pay for the hotels. Students will get
to share a room with three other people, so there will be four students per one room. Girls and
boys will be put in separate rooms. Teachers will also be in the same hotel supervising the
students.

(*The dinner on the 19th and the lunch on the 20th are not provided by the school. Students are
excepted to eat their breakfast before leaving their houses. They will be home on time for
dinner on the 20th).
We are giving your child an opportunity to go skiing, tree trekking as well as going to the
Muskoka Boat & Heritage Center.
Skiing- It is a 4 hour program. There will be a one hour group lesson which is
mandatory. You will be provided with skis, boots and poles, or snowboard and boots.
Students have the opportunity to explore and actively learn about the forest and the

trails we go on.
Treetop trekking- This activity will be for 3 hours. This program allows students to do
the following: respond to new challenges, participate in physical activities, setting
goals and solving problems and apply relationship and social skills as they participate
in physical activities.
Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre- When we are at the center, we will be taking a
tour around the place. Students get to explore the preservation of traditions of the
steamship, boat building and resort era. We will step into the past and visit the boat
builders workshop and view some of the finest wooden boats ever produced.

Students are allowed to bring their devices to take pictures of the activities they take part in. All
students are responsible for their own electronics. If by chance they are lost or stolen, the staff
members are not responsible for it.
We really hope your child is interested in this very fun and exciting trip. This trip explores
many of Ontarios curriculum expectations. We only have 80 seats! So if you want to take part
in this trip, please bring this form back to your homeroom teacher by January 6th 2015.
