Alderman Smith Well-Positioned to Win in 43rd Ward


With fewer than seven weeks to go before the February municipal elections, 43rd Ward
Alderman Michele Smith is in a commanding position against her challengers and is in a strong
position to avoid a run-off campaign1.
Smith leads all opponents with 50 percent of the vote, nearly 40 points ahead of her
nearest competitor, Caroline Vickrey (12 percent). Jen Kramer (8 percent) and Jerry Quandt (3
percent) fail to reach double digits.

Smith is well regarded by her constituents, who view her favorably by a nearly 2:1 ratio,
42 23 percent. In addition, 56 percent of likely voters say that Smith is doing an excellent or
good job as alderman.
In the mayoral contest, Rahm Emanuelwho is supporting Alderman Smithis running
roughshod over his opposition here, winning 70 percent of the vote in the 43rd Ward. Jesus
Chuy Garcia is nearly 60 points behind at 12 percent.

Results taken from a survey of 300 likely February voters in Chicagos 43rd Ward. Survey was conducted on land
lines and cell phones January 3-6, 2015. Results include a margin of error of +/- 5.6 percentage points at the 95
percent confidence interval.
