About Publisher

Publisher is used to compile electronic documents and prepare them for printing in paper
format. It can also be used to generate Non-eCTD Electronic Submissions (NeeS). By selecting
options in a publication wizard, tables of contents can be automatically created, master pages
can be applied to create consistent headers and footers, cross-references can be stamped, and
tabs can be formated. Templates can be used to automate the process of building a submission
structure. The software also optimizes for high volume printing. Publisher can be networked
with Electronic Document Management Systems (such as Documentum), as well as with a
standard Windows file share. Publications can be imported into and exported out of Publisher
in XML format. Additionally, Publisher is integrated with eCTDXPress, therefore, publications
can be exported to create eCTDs and eCTDs can be imported to create publications.

About this Guide

This training guide is meant to serve as a companion to training sessions offered by CSC. This
guide covers all functions of the software. However, additional information can be found in the
User Manual which can be accessed by selecting Help, Topics within Adobe Acrobat.
Each lesson within this guide will take you through process examples for each feature that is
described. Italicized text within the example steps indicates hypothetical entries. These can be
replaced with the appropriate information for any file. Your instructor may provide you with
other variables to enter in place of the samples used in the guide. Bold text within the steps
indicates items to select within Virtual Link Manager, such as buttons, text fields, menus, etc.
Screen shots are used in each of the process examples to show the steps visually. Numbered
call outs point out the buttons, menus, windows, selections, etc. that are used in the examples.
Additionally, the number of step in the example matches the number of the call out in the
screen shot.
