SKILLS & ABILITIES

EXPERIENCE

I am a National Board Certified Teacher and Media Specialist for grades 612. I incorporate 21st century skills and high levels of technology in my
lessons. I also assist faculty members with the implementation of
information, media, and technology skills.
I have coached students to the top ten in national rankings with the
National History Day program in the categories of performance, website,
and documentary for six years. This required extensive knowledge and use
of technology. I am a teacher leader for grades 6-12 and assist with
redelivering technology related information to the faculty. I am the
program administrator for our online databases.
MEDIA SPECIALIST, WHEELER COUNTY MIDDLE/HIGH SCHOOL
2013-present
I am the media specialist for grades 6-12. I work to ensure that students and staff are
effective and ethical users of ideas and information. I collaborate with classroom teachers to
design and implement technology rich lessons. Most importantly, I work to instill a culture
of reading in our school.
NATIONAL BOARD CERTIFIED TEACHER OF SOCIAL STUDIES, WHEELER COUNTY MIDDLE/HIGH
SCHOOL
1996 -present
I began teaching in 1996 and achieved National Board Certification in 2004. I have taught
grades 6-12 social studies, Georgia history, English, dramatic arts, world history, civics, and
economics. I maintain high standards for my students. I incorporate the latest research on
effective teaching strategies and I maintain membership in professional organizations to
remain current and effective in providing the most relevant educational experience for my
students.
BOARD MEMBER, WHEELER COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
2010 - present
I am very active in promoting a culture of reading and the fine arts in our community.
Through my involvement with the public library I have organized summer reading
programs, after-school events, and community festivals.

BOARD MEMBER, OCMULGEE REGIONAL LIBRARY SYSTEM


2012 present
Through my involvement with the regional library system I have been able
to assist in the decision making process for libraries in six counties. I was
able to give feedback on the Strategic Plan for Georgia Public Library
Service in order to help ensure a positive future for Georgias public
libraries.

EDUCATION

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION


I attended the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. I earned my Master of
Science in Education degree from UNE in 2001.
GEORGIA SOUTHERN UNIVERSITY BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION
I am a 1996 Bell Honors Program graduate from GSU with a degree in Social Science
Education.

I have served in many leadership capacities over my tenure as an educator.


The most recent are as follows:

I currently direct the not-for-profit Lamplighter Little Theatre


School of Speech and Dramatic Arts. I began directing this in 1998.

I was chosen as the system Star Teacher in 2005, 2012, and 2013.

I was the National History Day Teacher of the Year in 2010.

I served on the Youth Apprenticeship Advisory Council from 2012


until 2014.

I served on the Georgia School Superintendents Advisory Board in


2006-2007.

I served on the Wheeler County Chamber of Commerce Board of


Directors from 2000 until 2008.
