statement Released by the Kachin Baptist churches, USA

We, the Kachin Baptist Churches, USA, stand together with the people around the world in
solidarity and condemn the brutal and inhumane actions of the Burmese military who are
accountable and responsible for the death of Tangbau Hkawn Nu Tsin, 21, and Maran Lu Ra, 20.
Tangbau Hkawn Nu Tsin and Maran Lu Ra were volunteer mission teachers appointed by the
Kachin Baptist Convention, Myanmar, to the village of Mungbaw Kawng Hka in Mu Se
Township, Myanmar, when they were brutally mass-raped, tortured and murdered by Burmese

military on January 19,2015.

The Kachin Baptists have been summoned to be Christ's witnesses for justice, peace and
wholeness in our broken society. We, as Kachin Baptists, hold on to our faith and our faith
legacy to proclaim that all people are created in the image of God and that people have the right
to human dignity and to be treated as a person regardless of who we are.

As Christians, we are greatly troubled by the tragic death of those two girls as aresult of rape,
torture and murder by the Myanmar Government military. This action is a purposeful assault to
our belief and values, another unending assault to the Kachin people, and another assault to
human society. Today those two girls represent hundreds of thousands of Kachin people who are
facing continued violence and injustice from a brutal Burmese military Junta in the Kachin land.
We affirm the frustration, anger, and grief of all people committed to justice and peace in
Myanmr for the senseless murder of TangBau Hkawn Nan Tsin and Maran Lu Ra.
This Statement is a call to all Kachin Baptist Churches around the globe, all the national and
international Baptist organizations, national civil society and communities to stand together
against the inhumane behavior and actions of the Burmese military towards Tangbau Hkawn Nu
Tsin and Maran Lu Ra, and the fellow citizens of the ethnic Kachin people. It also calls on those
bodies and communities to develop and support specific and concrete actions directed towards
ending injustice and disruption of peace in the Kachin land.

As Kachin Baptist Churches of USA, we

in solidarity with those bearing witness through
prayer and vigil in times like these. We reaffi
our commitment to restore peace, justice and
wholeness in our society.
