Hi, Stephen.

I was recently watching an episode of QI, I believe it was "Jobs", though I could
be wrong!
The subject unnecessary "N"s being added to words in the English language
came up. The examples being "passenger" and "messenger".
I was wondering if you (or the QI Gremlins!) knew why this was! I have a keen
interest in the English language and I have my own theory.
It is perhaps that the person who grants/owns a passage, is the passager, whilst
the person who uses said passage would be a passenger. The same for message:
a messager is someone who sends a message, a messenger is someone who
delivers said message.
It was something quite interesting (...) to think about and any light that can be
shed would be interesting and appreciated!
