The document discusses a wolf cull in British Columbia aimed at saving a declining caribou population. While the author feels the cull is necessary to protect the caribou, they also feel sad that 184 wolves will be killed and believe non-lethal solutions should have been pursued sooner. The author is further troubled by the ease with which wolves can be killed from helicopters, believing death should not be so easy to inflict.

caribou I just cannot believe that the South Selkirk herd of caribou has diminished so quickly, just by the cause of wolves. I feel very shocked and surprised. According to the ministry, wolves caused at least 37% of adult deaths. I feel that the cull must happen, although I also feel that Ian McAllisters idea of protecting adequate amounts of habitat to save the caribou should happen at the same time. If the herd wasnt diminishing so fast, or if we had acted sooner, then I think that Mr. McAllisters plan would work. I feel very sad that the cull will be happening, because 184 wolves in British Colombia will be culled. I love all the animals on the planet, and I just wish that killing wasnt the only way, or that we had acted sooner. The wolves are living, but then I also think that the caribou are as well. The population of the herd of caribou in South Selkirk has declined from 46 in 2009, to just only 18 of last March. I just have a strong intuition that killing isnt the only solution. I also feel very offended, in a way I cant explain since the wolves will be shot from helicopters. I just think that death is so easy, from just a single shot from the helicopter equals a death in the wolf population. I think that death shouldnt be so easy, to do and to kill. By: Joan
