light
4.
translucent - materials that transmit some light but you can not see clearly
through
5.
opaque - materials that do not transmit light
6.
transmit - materials that let light pass through
7.
reflect - when light bounces off of materials
8.

Questions
1.

We can tell light travels in straight lines because when it hits an opaque object it

creates a shadow. Draw a diagram to explain your answer.

2.
Shadows are created by blocking light. Light travels in straight lines so it cannot
bend around objects.
3.
List or Draw 4 of each Translucent, Transparent, and Opaque Materials

Transparent

Transluscent

Opaque

5.

Draw diagrams to show what happens when light strikes a piece of glass, a
mirror, and a piece of black rock.

We can see objects that do not produce light because light is reflected off of them
to our eyes.
6.
We can prove that light is refracted because when we look at fish in the water
they are slightly further forward than they appear. Another example is when you look
at a pencil in a clear glass of water it looks like the pencil shifted over and is broken
at the water line.
7.
The colours of the spectrum are: ROY G B'V = Red, Orange, Yellow, Green,
Blue, Violet.
