Reforms for increased competitiveness

Objectives and flagship initiatives

The EU has set five ambitious objectives on employment, innovation, education, social
inclusion and climate/energy to be reached by 2020. In concrete terms these are:
1. Ensuring 75 % employment of 2064-year-olds;
2. Getting 3 % of the EUs GDP invested into research and development;
3.limiting greenhouse gas emissions by 20 % or even 30 % compared to 1990 levels,
creating 20 % of our energy needs from renewables and increasing our energy
efficiency by 20 %;
4. Reducing school dropout rates to below 10 %, with at least 40 % of 3034-year-olds
completing tertiary education;
5. Ensuring 20 million fewer people are at risk of poverty or social exclusion.

MEASURES TO REACH THAT:

SMART GROWTH
INNOVATION
"A Union of innovation ", which aims to improve the managers conditions and
access to finance for research and innovation in order to strengthen the
innovation process and boost levels of investment throughout the Union.

EDUCATION
Youth on the Move which aims to enhance system performance education and
strengthening the international appeal of European higher education.

DIGITAL SOCIATY
A Digital Agenda for Europe, which aims to accelerate the development of
services to the Internet access at high rate and reap the benefits of a single
Digital market for homes and businesses.

SUSTAINABLE GROWTH
CLIMATE, ENERGY AND MOBILITY
"An efficient use of European resources " to help the economic growth and the
use of resources, limiting carbon emissions from our economy, increasing the use
of renewable energy sources, modernizing our transport sector and encouraging
energy efficiency.

COMPETITIVENESS
"An industry policy in the era of globalization ", which aims to improve the
business environment, especially for SMEs, and to support the development of a
strong industrial base and durable, able to compete the World.

INCLUSIVE GROWTH
JOBS AND SKILLS
"A Strategy for new skills and new jobs , "which aims to modernize labor
markets , promoting labor mobility and development skills throughout life, to
improve participation in the labor market and establish a better match between
supply and demand.

FIGHT AGAINST POVERTY

"European platform against poverty, which aims to ensure a Territorial and
social cohesion in order to give to each people, the means to live with dignity and
participate actively in society.
