Sea” ee ee aac January 29, 2015 Dear Parents/Guardians Last evening around 8:00 p.m. the school district received notification from Madison County 911 Service that there was an incident taking place in the vicinity of DeRuyter that required the school district to go into “lock-down”. There was a volleyball game going on, but by the time we received the phone call, the game ‘was over and many of the spectators and the opposing team had already left. Approximately 54 of our students, parents, staff and other spectators had to remain for the lock-down situation. ‘Madison County Sheriff's Department immediately mobilized to DeRuyter and assessed the situation, After doing the sweep of the village looking for any potential dangers, they deemed it safe for school personnel, students, staff, and parents to safely leave the school and return to their homes. ‘The Sheriff's Department then utilized the building as their command center until the early morning hours of Thursday (1/29/15). AL 3:30 am. we were informed by the Madison County Sherif!"s Department thatthe situation was under control and it would be safe for us to open school on time. ‘Our school personnel, students, staff, and parents were at no time in any danger and we are very proud of how they responded in this situation. At this time, we are unable to release any other information. "Thank you for your continued support as we keep our school district safe Sincerely, Gt lbt- Charles W.
