Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe
Group Director, WeSchool I Eisenhower Fellow I Senate Member, University of Mumbai
It's a VUCA world where the rules of the game have changed. We often hear about terms such as
globalization, triple bottom line, more for less for more, disruptive innovation, sustainability,
technological revolution, social responsibility, ethics, governance and the list goes on. To keep
abreast with the dynamism, there is a dire need for students to hone their leadership skills, have
greater awareness of self & context, develop a global mindset, empathy &ethical perspective.
At WeSchool, all our efforts are towards grooming our students with these qualities and skill sets.
Consequent to the mega shifts that have characterized the global and local business environment over the last five years, WeSchool is
gearing itself towards developing the future ready managers and leaders, who are versatile, competent and value based. WeSchool's
guiding philosophy has been that of AAA which stands for Acquisition, Application and Assimilation of knowledge. Our emphasis is not
only on acquisition of knowledge; but on the application of knowledge. We strongly believe that by engaging students in pursuing real-life
projects/simulations/case studies, wherein they are able to apply the concepts learnt, helps in permanent retention of knowledge which
leads to assimilation.
The genesis of Global Citizen Leader program (GCL) has been from our AAA philosophy. Last year, WeSchool students participated in the
GCL Program to learn the essentials of innovation and leadership. Students groups were engaged in a local social improvement project. For
a period of 6months students groups worked on issues related to Rural, Healthcare, Innovation, Social issues, Human Resources, Urban
issues, Infrastructure, Systems & IT and Energy, under the guidance of Centre for Creative Leadership (CCL), USA and WeSchool Faculty
members.
WeSchool has always believed that programs and course curriculum should be industry oriented and over the years been a pioneer in
industry oriented programs like Healthcare, Rural Management, E-business, Business Design, Retail Management etc. Our students have
immensely benefitted through courses such as the Integrative Manager wherein through team teaching, multidisciplinary concepts are
taught to nurture an integrative thinking mindset.
Innovation and design thinking has always been one of the strongest pillars of WeSchool's guiding philosophy. We are committed in our
journey towards inculcating innovative mindset in our students. In February 2014, we will be hosting INTER-DESIGN Mumbai; a global
event organized under the aegis of ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design). We School is the only B-School to host this
global congregation of the best designers in the world (All the previous editions have been held by Design Schools across the world). The
theme for the forthcoming event is Humanizing the Metropolis.
Students' global & rural exposures and opportunity to engage in several projects and initiatives such as D-Magics, GRLI, SIFE, Udaan and
Munijan have sensitized them to their role as an individual to make a difference to the organization they would be working for. WeSchool's
association with several leading International Universities has ensured student & faculty exchange and internship programs.
I welcome you to the World of WeSchool

Bengaluru Dean's Message

I am delighted to announce that WeSchool, Bengaluru, which had a humble start few years ago,
has established its presence in the Silicon Valley of India. It was possible only with the constant
support of our Group Director, Prof. Dr. Uday Salunkhe. Being located in the Garden City, each
corner of our sprawling campus captures and emphasizes the green color of our brand identity
to provide an ideal serene environment conducive for learning and absorbing new knowledge.
In addition to PGDM and E-business programs, since innovation has been our focus at WeSchool,
we recently introduced a full-time PGDM in Business Design & Innovation program, which
integrates design thinking concepts and skill sets into management. The course is structured
in a manner that students develop and create new business ideas which are innovative,
entrepreneurial and feasible from an organization's perspective.
We pro-actively encourage, guide and involve the student fraternity to interact with Indian Inc.
'We Caf' initiative, anchored by our students provided great learning experience as it gave
opportunity to interact with CEOs/MDs of various leading companies so was the CII Young Indians
Chapter in our campus.
The series of Roundtables in Marketing, Human Resources, Information Technology and
Operations provided a platform for students to unveil their 'Personal Brand' and showcase their
caliber to companies. Our students initiated a 'Reduce Plastic-Campaign', in and around
Electronic city "WErGreen, 'Each one Teach one', participation in cultural activities has helped
instill and develop humility and humane approach.
I welcome you to read the brochure to know about WeSchool, Bengaluru.

About the identity system
About the identity system
The understated, almost undesigned font is humble and not stately and awe inspiring like typical university
identities.
The Trikon that represents body, mind & soul and the coming together of academics, corporate and society
looks simple but is actively a potent symbol, constantly pushing us forward, never stopping.
The green reminds us that green is going to be the color and nature of all businesses tomorrow. The color
purple gives our identity, the assurance and solidity of a university.

Business education seeks change. We are the change.

At Welingkar, we believe that management education has the potential to influence the country's growth and development. But in an era
where emerging unarticulated needs seek newer approaches, being a conventional B-school is not enough. It needs the combined efforts
of various stakeholders of management education. That's precisely why we have decided to renew our values, constantly challenge
convention and collaborate with the corporate, NGOs, government bodies etc. We would also share ideas and design innovative programs
that will equip today's talent to face tomorrow's challenges. Create newer paradigms in the area of management education and transform
from a B-school to WeSchool. All this with an endeavor to transform management education as we see it.
'We' is the new 'I' and as Welingkar changes to WeSchool, our actions will embody the spirit of:

breakthrough thinking and execution

business design
every movement

*Imp: The change to WeSchool is only a change in the brand identity, to reflect the philosophy of change and represent the multiple campuses that Welingkar has. The legal entity of
the institute remains unchanged as Prin. L.N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research.

Today, markets change at a pace that makes even Moore's law seems archaic. With advances in the fields of communication, material
sciences, and genetics: nothing seems impossible
How does a Business manager adapt in such times? Design thinking with its adaptive and integrative approach, seems to provide the way
forward. A designer converts imagination into reality with her/ his unique abilities of seeing co-relations across diverse domains, intuitive
skills of unbiased observations, a highly user centric approach, a tendency towards quick prototyping. A merger of the intuitive approach of
a designer and the analytical approach of a Business manager has given birth to the term 'Business design'.
Business is an entity designed to satisfy the need of its stakeholders profitably.
A business has to go through the following steps:

A business manager needs to understand these steps and have a holistic view of the human aspects in business, the economic, social,
cultural and technological context of the business environment, a research orientation, analytical and leadership skills. One has to go
beyond the functional silos of management (marketing, finance, operations, human resources etc) to understand the inter-linkages
between them so that he is able to appreciate the implications of his decisions and actions on the business of his organization to be a
responsible manager.
WeSchool's PGDM (Business Design) program attempts to inculcate this learning into the future business
Managers and leaders by integrating Design thinking and Innovation process into the mainstream management subjects. To facilitate this
process WeSchool has 'Innowe'- the innovation lab on campus for students to experiment with their ideas and concepts.

IMPACT Inter B-School Cricket Tournament

IMPACT is WeSchool's flagship event held at the famous Matunga Gymkhana grounds opposite the WeSchool campus. The program was
initiated way back in 1992 and till date its the most awaited event throughout all the B-Schools in Mumbai. Every year 12 B-Schools
(only those B-Schools that offer both MMS and PGDM courses) are selected to participate in this grueling 2 week long cricket tournament,
which tests the player's cricketing skills and also his core competencies as a management student.
IMPACT features some of the best cricket players in India representing their respective colleges and trying to win the coveted title of
'IMPACT Champions'.
This entire event is managed by students of WeSchool. Students show their core skills as managers bringing in expertise from all the
departments of Finance, Marketing, HR and Operations into practical usage. The event is managed by a dedicated team of around
50 students, including event leads and volunteers.
IMPACT also features a pre-event launch and an alumni match which is held a week prior to the event. Till today more than 30 different
B-Schools have participated in IMPACT. WeSchool has had the privilege of being crowned winners of IMPACT 11 times in the last 20 years.

WE'CKET 2012-13
WE'CKET was played with pomp and grandeur at WeSchool
Bengaluru Campus; however, there were fewer teams and
fewer matches. From this year onwards, the number of teams
and the number of matches played increased and would
continue to be so henceforth.
The event was organized into various qualifiers. After a set of
close encounters, E-Biz I Senior and E-Biz I Junior teams met in
the finals. The match was a closely fought one as it was
swinging in favour of both the teams. However, in the end the
E-Biz I Senior team won the match and the trophy. The Faculty
team and the Alumni team also played alongside the other teams
during the tournament and played positively all along.

D-Magics
Since 2006, design thinking and innovation were brought into the MBA curriculum which has proven to be a sort of ground-breaking
contribution to management education in India. Design is a thinking process that is applicable to all man-made creations; whether it's a
business model, product, service, process or strategy. It is a process that leads to human centered innovation. Design thinking needs to be
adopted into the mainstream thought process in all functional streams and at all levels in an organisation. With this objective WeSchool
organises D-Magics every year at Mumbai and Bangalore campuses. D-Magics is
(i) a concept show of innovative prototypes by our students and faculty for various industry verticals and social arenas as well as the
industry showcasing some of their innovations
(ii) will be a dialogue between the leaders and management representatives in organizations and practitioners of design to explore a
magical change in industry and society. Hence the event has been named as D-Magics: Design for Management and Growth in
Corporations and Society.
The concept show will be exhibited all across our campus and will be an outcome of a six months exercise by students and their faculty
mentors undertaking identification of latent needs, field research, concept generation, business case validation, prototyping and
refinement. These concepts will be from the verticals of Social entrepreneurship, Agri business, Healthcare, Banking & Financial Services,
Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Retail, Information Technology, Telecom, Media, Entertainment, Advertising and Manufacturing. The
outcomes that are anticipated will be to identify and solve problems and fuel growth in the social sector and corporate sector. This
programme will be attended by top level executives from the corporate sector, mentors to student projects, Government officials, Students
& Faculty of many other business schools in India.

Mashup
Mashup', An innovative Platform That Brings Startups and Students From Diverse Backgrounds Together
Today's management education scenario must change by breaking the silos, thereby creating opportunities and communities that nurture
a better future for people in all parts of the global economy. Having realized that, Welingkar began their journey on an untrodden path that
not only Indian but universities and scholars internationally were slowly beginning to think and talk about. Thus the path of 'Design and
Innovation' was set to Redefining MBA education at WeSchool. WeSchool believes in training its students to become corporate thought
leaders with global mindsets and at the same time motivates them to become daring entrepreneurs who will take on the challenges thrown
up by accelerated globalization, fast changing technologies, demanding clients and unpredictable socio-economic-political situations that
the future has in store. Getting that higher post or a bigger salary package cannot be the only career goals of a young management student,
he should be able to look at life that is beyond the horizon at the moment and visualize as to how he can become an employer instead of an
employee.
After all how many young managers will really be able to get that job offer with a salary package of one crore? expressed Dr. Uday Salunkhe,
Group DirectorWelingkar Education, at the inaugural function.
Speaking about the relevance of an event, Dr. Uday Salunkhe, Group Director, WeSchool says, The idea behind Mashup is to put budding
entrepreneurs and startups through the experience required to create executable business plans. There are many entrepreneurs with
innovative ideas or products but lack in scientific knowhow of creating a profitable business plan or are not sure how to approach the
market. This platform will ensure that these startups get the required push in the right direction. It also gives students a chance to showcase
their talent in front of the right audience and bear fruition to their dreams of setting up their own businesses. WeSchool believes not only in
training world class corporate managers but entrepreneurs as well. That is why this competition is kept open for graduate as well as post
graduate students so that they are able to met up with innovators, partner with them by polishing their own skills and get started on the paths
of realizing their dreams of entrepreneurship.

Prarambh - Bengaluru
At Welingkar our life revolves around discovering, researching,
erring & succeeding. We toil with ideas in an effort to germinate
them from seeds to sprouts and from sprouts to trees; trees that
grow big and strong and yet have their roots deep and firm in the
soil. This thought has given birth to Prarambh, the E-Cell at
We School, Bangalore.

We Connect - Mumbai
Management Students Rendezvous with 'Bollywood' at WeSchool
Management Education has changed over the years with emerging
unarticulated needs, realities, limited resources, globalization,
environment issues etc which needs a new approach both in terms of
thought as well as action.
WeSchool strongly believes in integrating the philosophy of
Leadership & Innovation with a design-thinking approach into
management education. To enhance the learning in the classroom,
a blend of case-studies, scenario planning, role-plays, audio-visual
material and experiential learning methods are used in addition to the
conventional classroom lecture method. Teaching through theatre,
literature, poems, films, and book reviews have been a popular medium
to connect with students to teach several management & leadership
principles which makes learning more experiential and fun as well. B-schools and companies have realized how theatre-kind of training can
develop various attributes among individuals and can determine group dynamics. At WeSchool we are going one step further by integrating
theatre and literature (particularly serious fiction) and helping our students to not just learn from the unique pedagogy but by selecting such
stories whose characters are often non-conventional leaders that teach many lessons on decision-making. While students engage in storytelling, they also are guided to delve on the dilemmas in the stories that involve ethics, change management, adversity management etc.
The personalities from Bollywood shared their experiences with the students and faculty; be it Production, Direction, Script writing, Music,
Dance, Acting each of these aspects had tremendous learnings for Business Management Students to enhance their professional
approach.

Corporate Connect
Centre For Management Development And Continuing Education
Whether driven by the changing market dynamics, the desire to stay ahead of competition, to grow further in the organisation or to take the
business to the next level, an increasing number of senior managers and executives are enrolling at themselves for executive education
courses at reputable B-Schools such as WeSchool.
We also see a lot more younger employees joining corporates with aspirations of moving up the career ladder quickly. At the same time,
organisations need able leaders at all levels to align with the company's growth strategy. These intersecting interests are driving the
creation of more executive education programs customised for the organisation's needs.
Executive education at WeSchool is via customised programs tailored to suit the specific needs of corporates as well as open-enrolment
programs for individual employees/professionals who wish to qualify themselves and enhance their knowledge and skills with all the time
constraints they have at work- typically, for those who cannot spare 6 days a week for a 3-year part-time program of the University. The
curriculum is upgraded year after year and, with best of faculties and infrastructural support, the participants come out more confident,
more proactive and so more useful to their organisations.

Executive Education Programs at WeSchool

PGPMS (Post-graduate program in Management Studies) is a focused autonomous executive education program aimed at
adding value to working executives by giving them a strong foundation of management concepts and theory. The program is
designed in a way to make use of the working experience of the individual to support the teaching and add new perspectives to
his/her experience. Many corporate houses like Mahindra & Mahindra, Kalpataru Group, Bayer CropScience, McDonald's India
(West & South) are already making the most of it through this unique program.
The program is spread over a period of 2 years, conducted on weekends and is currently in two forms - a general PGPMS
program and one tailored specifically for professionals from the growing BPO-IT/ITES/other industries.
We can customise programs for industries in the manner of their choice focused as necessary with different time-frames.

MIT Scholar brainstorms with students about

Design thinking in technical innovation
Prof. Ramesh Raskar, Associate Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and head of the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture
research group had an insightful discussion with students at Prin. L. N. Welingkar Institute of Management Development (WeSchool) on the
topic, Design at Scale: A New Paradigm for Tech Innovation on November 01, 2013.
Prof. Ramesh Raskar engaged in an engrossing session with students from various b-schools, design schools and medical institutes on the
application of design thinking on scalable technology innovation, framing the discussion around his latest invention eyeMitra, a Mobile
Retinal Imaging and Predictive Analytics solution. Through the session he elucidated on the need for a linkage between various streams of
work. He enunciated on how constant communication and cooperation between various streams like management, engineering and
design will lead to differential innovation.
The session was in tandem with WeSchools focus on design thinking. It concurs with their constant effort to guide its students to break out
of the conventional framework and to come up with pragmatic innovations for socio-economic needs. Understanding the intricacies of the
complexly drawn up economy has helped WeSchool to transform itself into a b-school with design thinking at its core.
Appreciative of WeSchools leaning, Prof Ramesh advised the students to focus their energies on devising solutions for socially relevant
problems that will help the common man in various aspects of life. He also spoke about how the MIT Media Lab's Camera Culture research
group has pioneered in innovation and idea generation through an amalgamation of professional culture and various field of work for
broader perspective and clarity while innovating.
While concluding, he requested the audience to never stop ideating and to take action on the problems they face on a day today basis, but
first to interact and brainstorm with people from different backgrounds to discern social issues and to craft solutions that address it
efficiently, economically and quickly.

Students Exchange Program

Apart from connecting with organizations, Welingkar also
encourages students to learn about working in international
groups through Universities it partners with thorough student
exchange programs.
The Copenhagen Business School offered one such opportunity
where one of the Welingkar students with a Biotechnology
background selected a course in Marketing Communications
where he worked on a project with group members from Italy,
Turkey and Lithuania. The exposure also provided an opportunity
to learn from social interactions with students coming from
various continents viz Asia, America and Europe. The
perspectives they brought to the table broadened the students
approach to learning and addressing challenges.

Duration
Student internships are generally defined for a period of 2 months
- May & June. It is more convenient to carry out internships during
the student's summer break at the institute.

Benefits
Undoubtedly, the internships offer significant learning for
students. It helps students garner global perspectives. The
company too benefits in several ways; as an outsider and being
younger in age, students are able to bring in fresh perspectives to
any existing problem and give valuable recommendations for the
benefit of the company. The company also assesses the
performance of the student, to whom they could then choose to
make an employment offer in the near future.

Corporate Testimonials
The WeSchool student has been a keen observer within the organization. He has shown curiosity in knowing how various teams within
the organization function. He was quick to identify target segments as well as prospective bankable companies within the industry.
Ms .Vinitha Turakhia
Chief People Officer, Deloitte Consulting, Mumbai, India

The student worked diligently to understand the organization and its needs and then modeled the project accordingly. He did a good
comparison of prevailing financial models in other developing countries and also looked at the Indian context.
Mr. Anand B. Surange

Mr. Lalit Oswal
Senior Vice President, Reliance Industries

The trainee is highly focused & keen to learn about new technologies. Initiatives taken by her are very valuable for the organization. She is
very good in research & finding out exact solution to be pitched to any of prospect in various domains.
Mr. Rahul Dubey
Senior Strategist Business Development, Persistent Systems

I can only confirm that the project is going well and that we are making good progress. The WeSchool student -from the very start - was
very motivated and hard-working (he still is). I did not expect such great commitment (to be honest) and therefore are really happy with
the way things are going. The intern displays a very good basis of analytical skills and questions things before he proceeds with a task - a
quality I sometimes did not find when working with other Indian MBA students. Also, he is very eager to learn and to absorb new things.
Overall, I am very happy with his performance and can only recommend him to all potential future employers.

connect the Welingkar alumni present in the same sector, across

The biggest draw of this was, for the first time people were
