Types of Appeals

Pathos (Emotions)
Definition: An appeal that attempts to

sway the audience through emotion


Example:

Kendra gives a speech that addresses the


starving children in Africa and their plight to
find food.

Logos (Logic)
Definition: An appeal that uses the

audiences logic or reason to persuade.


Example:

Jasons speech illustrated the reasons why


it was important to become active in a
political campaign.

Ethos (Ethical)
Definition: An appeal to an audiences

ethics, morals and/or morality.


Example:

DeAndreas speech discussed the reasons


why she felt that capital punishment was
morally wrong.
