This document provides the procedure for conducting a slump test according to EN 12350-2:1999. The procedure involves dampening the mold and base plate, filling the mold in three layers while compacting each layer with 25 strokes of a tamping rod, and striking off the top surface before removing the mold within 150 seconds to measure the slump. The slump is determined by taking the difference between the height of the mold and the highest point of the slumped concrete specimen.

Procedure of slump test: 1. Dampen the mold and base plate and place the mold o the horizontal base plate/surface. 2. During filling of the mold hold it firmly against the base plate/surface by clamping in the place, or by standing on the two foot piece. 3. Fill the mold in three layers, each approximately one-third of the height of the mold when compacted. 4. Compact each layers with 25 strokes of the tamping rod. 5. Uniformly distribute the strokes over the cross-section of layers. For the bottom layers this will necessitate inclining the rod slightly and positioning approximately half the strokes spirally toward the center. 6. Compact the second layer and the top layer each throughout its depth, so that the strokes just penetrate into the immediately underlying layer. 7. In filling and compacting the top layer, heap the concrete above the mold before tamping is started. 8. If the tamping operation of the top layer results in subsidence of the concrete below the top edge of the mold, add more concrete to keep excess above the top of the mold at all times. 9. After the top layer has been compacted, strike off the surface of the concrete by means of a sawing and rolling motion of the compacting rod 10. Remove spilled concrete from the base plate/surface. 11. Remove the mold from the concrete by raising it carefully in a vertical direction. 12. Perform the operation of raising the mold in 5s to 10s, by a steady upward lift, with no lateral or torsional motion being imparted to the concrete. 13. Carry out the entire operating from the start of the filling to the removal of the mould with interruption and complete it within 150 s. 14. Immediately after removal of the mold, measure and record the slump (h) by determining the difference between the height of the mold and that of the highest point of the slumped test specimen.
