Pick 2
1. Role play: In your group, imagine you are the founding fathers sent to the future. Assign
the roles : James Madison, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton.
You now have the power to expand the bill of rights and constitution. Write down how
you think your founding father would address these current issues in America:
A. The internet and internet privacy
B. Police policies ( DUI checkpoints, random searches, civilian shootings and civil
unrest
C. Surveillance & Security : i.e. cameras, NSA, airport security & event security
D. Guantanamo Bay
E. Conducts of war: drone bombings
2. Directions: Think about the five freedoms of the First Amendment. How
can you exercise each of the rights protected in the First Amendment in
school? In the boxes below, write two or three sentences explaining how you
personally exercise this right, or create a drawing with a one-sentence

3. Exercise your internet rights!:

Tweet at the president in favor or against a specific stance he took that will affect you.

Search online for Lou Barlettas home page and then email him about your concerns in
the area.

This project is for a group of students in Mr. Barretts eighth grade civics class who are
struggling to understand content and participate in discussion. Instead, they spend time drawing
and daydreaming about social events or video games. Rather than a discussion based lesson,
through different types of stimulation that will keep them engaged with the intent of the core
lesson plan.
