Frozen

The teeth of autumn begin to bite into the summer's warmth

Like an owl's talons clamp onto its prey.
A chilled wind now blows where the sun once shone.
This night is cold.
A footstep heard with a crunch as the sun break through with a ray
Signifies the approach of a person
The last golden leaf falls to the cold ground.
This night is cold.
The teeth of a wild winter wind bites at his frostbitten nose.
The trees' branches are long arms reaching out,
As black as the frigid, lifeless night sky.
This night is cold.
The man wanders in these woods after the loss of all he has.
The man asks himself, Is this dark place home?
His fear traps him inside his unsound mind.
This night is cold.
His thoughts are placid, his thoughts are tangled, his thoughts are frenzied.
The chaos inside disrupts his senses,
His teeth chattering uninterrupted.
This night is cold.
A crack sounds loudly in the woods, echoed in his splintered mind.
The fire in his veins turned into cold ice,
The glinting snow falling like frozen fire.
This night is cold.
He is terrified of what is to come, but is not afraid.
He goes on to face the winter to come.
Once again he asks, Is this dark place home?
Yes
I AM COLD.
