The Pre-School understands that the sharing of refreshments plays an important part in children's social development, as well as reinforcing children's understanding of the importance of healthy eating. We believe that, in partnership with parents/carers, the Pre-School routines in this area contribute greatly to children forming lasting healthy lifestyles. To ensure this we will: Have drinking water available all day.
Provide snacks that are nutritious, avoiding large quantities of fat,
sugar, salt, additives, preservatives and colourings. Ask parents to provide (NAMED) lunch boxes that reinforce our policy of healthy food. Parents are encouraged to include a small ice pack to keep the lunch fresh.
We ask parents not to provide children with NUT related items (e.g. peanut butter) due to allergies.
Consult with parents, prior to admission about individual dietary
requirements, including allergies and religious requirements, and make appropriate arrangements to meet these. Written records of individual dietary requirements/allergies are on the child's place mat, register, in the kitchen, staff noticeboard and emergency contacts information sheet. Provide children with a 1/3 of a pint of milk/water daily. If two or more children have food poisoning Ofsted must be notified. Children will sit in small groups with a member of staff at lunchtime to
maximise social interactions
Children/staff will wash their hands before food preparation and
consumption of food. Kingsland Pre-School is registered with the Local Environmental Health Authority Department.
