Column Form
A

formwork is either a temporary or


permanent mould for the concrete
mix to be poured into.

column is a solid, rigid, upright


structure designed to support a
larger structure above it, such as a
roof or a horizontal beam.

Components of Column
Form

Sheathing
Sheathing

forms the
surface of the
concrete.
It must be
watertight since
the concrete is
in a plastic
state when
placed in the

Yoke
Yokes

are horizontal
reinforcements.
Main purpose is to prevent
concrete from distorting the
form.
Hydrostatic force is exerted
on the form by the concrete
and this pressure is greater
at the bottom hence the
yokes are placed closer
together at the bottom.

Yoke

Footing Form & Stake


Footings

spread
the weight over a
larger ground area.
Stakes are used to
hold the sides of
the footings in
place & prevent it
from spreading.

Batten
Battens

are
narrow strips of
boards placed
directly over the
joints of
sheathings.
Main purpose is to
aid in keeping the
vertical
sheathings

Materials

The yokes, batten, footing form and


stakes were all made of pinewood.

Ply board was used to construct the


sheathings and MDF was used for
the Anchor bolt template and
Sheathing-Type Yoke lock.

BM and 3BM of Pinewood and


ply board were used respectively, to
construct the various components.

In

total, 6.042 BM was used to


construct the
Column Form.
