Design of Car Engine in Aspen Plus
Design of Car Engine in Aspen Plus
Design a car engine for 7.56 L/hr of 2,2,4-trimethylpentane(gasoline) which reacts with 2.8
kmol/hr of air (0.21O2 & 0.79 N2) in a reactor . Both air & gasoline are entered at 25C & 1
bar . Following reaction should be added in the RStoic reactor.
2(CH3)3CCH2CH(CH3)2 + 25 O2
16CO2 +18H2O
To simulate car engine using reactor in Aspen Plus following steps should follow:
Step#01 After opening the software create new blank template. Now add components , by
clicking Specification and add components by simply typing the name e.g. "2,2,4Trimethylpentane , Oxygen, Nitrogen, Water & Carbon dioxide " . Now add physical
property by clicking Methods and select your desired method under Base Method e.g.
PENG-ROB was selected .
Step # 02 Go to simulation atmosphere & drag the RStoic Reactor, Flash Separator ,turbine
& Cooler under Model Palette to main flow sheet . Now connect the blocks by material
stream & work stream as shown in the figure below.
Step # 03 Now define the parameters of air & gasoline streams as shown in the figure below
Step # 04 Now define the parameters of reactor as shown in the figure below :
Now we have to add the reaction to the reactor. For this click on the reactions option in the
RStoic reactor and add new reaction as shown in the figure below :
Step # 05 Now define the parameters of separator as shown in the figure below :
Step # 06 Now define the parameters of turbine as shown in the figure below :
Step # 07 Now define the parameters of cooler as shown in the figure below :
Step#08 By clicking
icon under home the simulation will start . When simulation will
be completed the result can be seen under Results summary .
Design Reaction of ethanol & acetic acid to produce ethyl acetate &
water in Aspen Plus
186 kmol/hr of ethanol reacts with 192.6 kmol/hr of acetic acid .Calculate the amount of
ethyl acetate & water produce in RStoic & RGibbs reactor model .For comparison of reactors
temperature of 70C & 1bar will be same in both reactors .Following reaction is added to
the reactors.
C2H6O +C2H4O2
C4H8O2 +H2O
